  Marion C. Batzler, age 92, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014. Marion was born on March 10, 1921, in Appleton to the late Joseph and Magdaline (Herman) Hager. She was a long-time employee of Lawrence University, retiring in 1986. Marion married Gerald F. Batzler in Appleton; he preceded her in death on April 14, 1970. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Marion enjoyed reading and was well-known as a skilled seamstress. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Richard Batzler; her daughter, Ann (Michael) VandenHogen; her grandchildren, Amy Lynn VandenHogen (fiancé Jon Sanger); Lisa VandenHogen; and Travis VandenHogen; and her great grandchildren, Javon and Kierra VandenHogen. Marion is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends at the Thompson Center. She was preceded in death by her great grandson, Ayden VandenHogen; seven sisters and two brothers. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary, O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street, Appleton, on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again directly at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Janine Buffo and her staff, and to the staff at ManorCare, for their loving care.
