  Roy J. Schumacher passed away quietly into Gods everlasting life on Monday Oct 30, 2017 he was 93 years old. Roy had a long and widely varied successful career which started out as a heating contractor in the late 1940s, then became a master plumber in the 1950s and operated "R.J. Schumacher Heating and Plumbing Inc." into the 1960s. He started building apartment buildings in the city of Appleton. He was the first in Appleton to build an apartment complex larger than a 4plex in 1963, and continued to build and operate apartment buildings throughout the 60s. In the early 1970s he went to work for Kimberly Clark Research and Development Field Service unit and spent much of that time in Massachusetts, Connecticut and other east coast areas. He had a knack for finding the diamond in the rough and was good at buying development properties for future value. He purchased and developed the north end of Stroebe's Island in the 1970s and 80s and brought sewer and water to the island then proceeded to built condos and his own home there. Roys favorite job was the 10 years he worked as the City of Menasha Building Inspector and was instrumental in the idea, planning, and development of the Menasha Harbor Project He had eight state certifications and performed duties as building inspector, health inspector, plumbing, heating, electrical, high pressure steam inspector, arson investigation as well as a few others. After Roy retired from the City of Menasha inspection department, he started a marine business selling used boats and marine parts west of Neenah which kept him busy and he continued until late last year. Roy was a lifetime member of the Appleton Elks Club and Menasha Elks Club and was a past Exhaulted Ruler. He was also avid boater and spent many weekends and summer hours on lake Winnebago and on Green Bay in Door county. He was lifetime member of the Appleton Yacht Club and served as Commodore for 4 years there, he had also been a member of the Fond du lac Yacht Club for several years. He was married to Irene (Doerfler) for 27 years with which he had and raised his four children. He is survived by his sister Carol Van Vonderen of Appleton, and four children, Lynn and Michael Van Dyke of Sturgeon Bay, Kurt and Sue Schumacher of Neenah, Lisa Schumacher of Kaukauna and Kory and June Schumacher of Hortonville. Roy had 8 grandchildren and 3 great grand children, Kristopher Schumacher of Neenah, Nichole and Joseph Kemp of Neenah, Lindsey and Lukasz Glowacki of Neenah, Matt and Shannon Van Dyke of West Allis, Meredeth and Lucas Beversdorf of Milwaukee and Erik Schumacher of Hortonville, Tara Menting of Kaukauna, Jennifer Carter of Kaukauna. Three great grandchildren, Lahela Carter, Adrian Glowacki and Evangeline Kemp. Three nephews and a niece, Judson Schumacher of New York, Mark Schumacher of Green Bay, Andrew Schumacher of Chicago and Vicki Van Vonderen of Appleton. He was preceded in death by his first wife, (Irene) and his parents Ben and Ella Schumacher of Appleton WI and, by wives Patricia (Anderson) Schumacher, Judith (Berner) Schumacher, and special friend Janice Sommers; and his brother Gilbert, Schumacher of DePere WI, niece Heidi Jones of Rhinlander ,nephew Scott Schumacher of Whitefish Bay WI. There will be a memorial service at Zion Lutheran Church of Appleton on November 11. Gathering at 10am, service at 11am for friends and family.
