  Dorothy (Johnson) Van Straten, age 91, Appleton, formerly of Shiocton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. Dorothy was born on January 16, 1917, in Shiocton, daughter of Edward and Wilhelmina (Jacobs) Johnson. She married Robert Van Straten on November 4, 1942. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Dorothy graduated from Kaukauna Teaching College and the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. She taught 30 years at Cloverblossom, Liberty Bell and Shiocton Elementary School. She was a dedicated teacher who loved her students. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, St. Ann's Society, and a member of the Vine Christian Fellowship. Dorothy is survived by four daughters and one son: RoseAnn (Gerald) Verkuilen, Appleton; Julie (John) Schmidt, Menasha; Bridget (Dennis) Welch, Greenville; Peter (Teresa) Van Straten, Duluth, MN; Catherine (Kevin) Mrasak, Tittusville, FL; a son-in-law Toby Sasse, New London. Grandchildren: Vannessa (Gilbert) DeSantos, Appleton; Lori (Steve) Kriesser, Ashland; Dan Sasse, Everett, WA; Ginger Sasse, Ashland; Nicole (Tim) Leatherman, Menasha; Heather (Arash) Ghodsian, Heartland; John Schmidt, Appleton; Talia Welch (Fiance Matthew Brown), Minneapolis, MN; Breanna (Luke) Jacobson, Appleton; Zachary Welch, Greenville; Adam Van Straten, Duluth, MN; Ian Van Straten, Minneapolis, MN; Justin Pinter, Tittusville, FL; Rachelle (Chang) Wang, Tittusville, FL. Great-grandchildren: Chelsey DeSantos, Leah DeSantos, Jenna Kriesser, Austin Kriesser, Rogue Pinter, Aiden Van Straten and Owjen Martinez. She is further survived by sister-in-laws Nona Van Straten and Lilas Van Straten, both of Appleton, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by a daughter Agnes Sasse, a brother Russell Johnson and her twin brother Donald Johnson. Her strong faith sustained her throughout her life. She was a loving and caring wife and mother, and will be missed by her family. Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held on Friday, June 6, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at The Vine Christian Fellowship Church in Appleton, (3395 W. College Ave.) with Rev. Steve Shepard officiating. Burial will be in the St. Denis Cemetery in Shiocton. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
