Dennis "Butch" Kunitz, Appleton, age 66, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 1, 2009, while on vacation in Naples, FL. He was surrounded by his wife, three children, and two sisters. Butch was born November 16, 1942, son of Carl and Catherine Kunitz. He was raised in Appleton and attended Appleton West High School, where he met the love of his life, Gert Derby. Butch and Gert were married November 4, 1961, and have spent 47 fun-filled years together. He worked in the construction industry and participated as a volunteer in the Appleton Jaycees. He enjoyed the simple things in life, which mainly consisted of spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed being around people and sharing his point of view on everything from the Green Bay Packers to city politics. Butch was a generous man who would give the shirt off his back to help others. He was seriously ill for the last ten years of his life but he inspired many through his ability to handle pain and suffering with the resilience that is not often displayed in life. Butch is survived by his wife, Gert; daughters: Erin Kunitz and Bronwyn (Tony) Maas; son, Jeff (Lynne) Kunitz; sisters: Charlene Geenen, Kate (Lew) Del Gatto, Karen (Cliff) West; brother, Chuck (Betty) Kunitz; and five grandchildren: Natalie and Tony Maas, Kyrie Kunitz Kirkpatrick, Eli and Caroline Kunitz. Butch was preceded in death by his parents and infant granddaughter Breanna Maas. A Celebration of Life will occur in the near future date and a notification will be posted.
