  Joseph Joas, a life-long resident of Stockbridge town, died Wednesday morning at 6:16 o'clock. He had been ill since last November and confined to his bed since December. He bore his illness in a fine spirit of patience and resignation. The funeral services will be held Saturday at St. Mary's church, Stockbridge, of which he had been long a member. Rev. Michael Gonnering, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Joas was born in Sherwood Oct. 28, 1868. The family settled on a farm in the town of Stockbridge and he married Miss Anna Daun of Charlesburg May 14, 1895. The young couple settled on a farm in Stockbridge and have lived in the town since. Mr. Joas is survived by his wife, Anna, one son, Alfred, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Frank Nickel, Stockbridge; Mrs. Joseph Propson, Kloten, Mrs. Nick Kampfer, Chilton; one brother, George Joas, Stockbridge; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Wiley, Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Fred Groat, Hayward, Wis.; and 11 grandchildren. One son died in infancy and one daughter, Catherine, died in 1925 at the age of 27. Mr. Joas was widely known in his community and respected for his honesty and integrity by a large circle of friends who mourn his passing. Chilton Times – July 23, 1936
