  Doberstein, Helen nee Stroebe Helen (Stroebe) Doberstein, 95, Appleton, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Helen was born on Dec. 25, 1913, to the late Frank and Anna (Nelson) Stroebe on Stroebe's Island. On May 22, 1935, she married Clarence Doberstein and together they owned and operated many supper clubs from the Weather Cock Supper Club in the state of New York, to the River Resort in Fremont, and, most recently, the Stroebe Island Haven Supper Club from 1947 until 1969. Helen was also a real estate broker in the Fox Valley and was a longtime member of the women's group of the Appleton Elks Club. She also liked to design houses. Helen is survived by her children, Carol Bunnell, Dale; Joan (Daniel) Knaack, Appleton; grandchildren, Dan (Debbie) Knaack, Jr., Neenah; Kent (Joanne) Knaack, Greenville; Beth Ann (Dan) Jurgenson, Town of Clayton; Blake (Brenda) Barrett, Waupaca; Lori (AJ) Trantor, Dale; and Sheli Barrett, Appleton; 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Helen was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. Superior St., with Pastor Stephen Savides officiating. Entombment will be in the Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the Funeral Home.
