  Matt J. Buechel, 80, retired Calumet County farmer and cement mason, died Thursday evening at this home on School Street, Chilton, following an illness of one year. He had been making his home in Chilton for only eight months. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Buechel, he was born in the town of Brothertown, Calumet County, Dec. 28, 1874. His marriage to the former Katherine Leitner took place Nov. 21, 1899 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Jericho. In addition to his farming and construction work, Mr. Buechel was employed for several years as a road master for the town of Brothertown. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Emil of Sheboygan and Roman and Bernard of Chilton; one daughter, Mrs. Gordon Gerner of the town of Brothertown; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, William and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Freund, both of Jericho. Six brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Services will be held at St. Augustine Church with the Rev. Roland Ahearn, pastor, celebrant of the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
