  Eugene "Gene" W. Schwaller, of Kaukauna, formerly of Winneconne, age 86, died Friday, September 16, 2011, at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. He was born July 9, 1925, in Appleton to the late Raymond and Clara (Schwarz) Schwaller. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On February 8, 1947, he married Eleanor VandenHeuvel at St. John Church in Little Chute. Gene was the owner of a tire shop, he worked in auto sales, and he retired as a district manager from Wisconsin Gas. Co. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Winneconne, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the Kiwanis, and he had served on the Combined Locks Village Board for 8 years. He was awarded the Silver Beaver as a Boy Scout leader, and the St. George award, a Catholic award. Gene enjoyed camping, boating, golf, travel, and wintering in Texas. A Funeral Mass for Gene will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Dr. Winneconne. Burial with military honors will be in the St. John's Cemetery, Little Chute. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Memorials are being established for St. Mary Catholic Church, Winneconne, and for cancer and Alzheimer's funds. Gene's family wishes to specially thank the staffs of St. Paul Villa, St. Paul Home, and St. Paul Hospice Services for all the care given to him.
