  Verhagen, James P. "Jim" App letonAge 80, died in Appleton on July 16, 2002. James was born to the late Mich ael and Katherine (Dercks) Verhagen in Little Chute on July 25, 1921. On S eptember 18, 1947, he married Theodosia "Dote" Kiffe in Kaukauna. She prec eded him in death in 1993. As a member of the United States Army Air Corps ., James served in England during World War II. He was a member of the Kni ghts of Columbus and a member of the American Legion Post in Wrightstow n. James owned and operated a dry wall business in Kaukauna. He enjoyed sp ending time with his family and friends, and particularly enjoyed playi ng cards with them. Watching football was a favorite past-time, James enjo yed watching the young athletes as well as the professionals. James lov ed animals of all kinds, whether it be watching birds in his backyard or t aking care of his horse.James is survived by two sons: William (Debbie) Verhagen and Paul (Deb) Ve rhagen, both of Kaukauna; two daughters: Jane (Steve) Sprangers and Don na (Jerry) Schoen, both of Kaukauna; 10 grandchildren: Troy (Diane), Ben a nd Kevin Verhagen; Mark and Leah Sprangers, Jenny (Aaron) La Voy, Lori Sch oen, and Tanya, Lindsey, and Tyler Verhagen; three great-grandchildren: Tr evor Verhagen, and Kaylee and Ashley La Voy; brother, Mike Verhagen of App leton; two sisters: Jeannette Van Deurzen of Little Chute and Barbara V an Asten of Little Chute; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friend s. James is preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters and brothers.The funeral liturgy will be at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Ho ly Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack Mul larkey officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 2:00 p. m. until the time of the service.
