Lila Helen Pohlman was called to her heavenly home surrounded by her family on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the age of 91 years. She was born on Jan. 28,1922 in Wittenberg, WI, to the late Emil and Helen (Williams) Schultz. Lila was a 1939 graduate of Winneconne High School and employed for five years at the War Department in Washington D.C. before her marriage on Nov. 1, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton to the late Orville Pohlman. There they began their life together and raised five children. Later on, Lila retired after working 15 years as Secretary to the Chief of the Fire Department in Appleton. All those who knew and loved her will remember her helpfulness, her love of angels and butterflies, her exceptional homemaking skills, quilting, craft projects and that she also participated with Church Women United. Orville, her husband of more than 64 years, preceded her in death on November 23, 2011. Lila is lovingly survived by her five children, Phyllis (Dennis) Verhyen of Greenleaf; Donald (Cheryle) Pohlman of Plymouth; Carol (James) Steffens of Oak Creek; James (Sharon) Pohlman of Appleton and Thomas Pohlman of Hartland; 11 loving grandchildren, Tina, Laura, Sara, Joseph, Christopher, Tiffani, Teaira, Tasha, Jessica, Wesley and Carlee; 16 great-grandchildren, Alissa, Brittany, Katie, Ashwin, Kendra, Nicole, Matthew, Cole, Emily, Aviah, Kaleb, Kyla, Brooke, Carter, Braden and Macy. Also survived by four sisters, Eva Kieffer, Eleanor Redmann, Adeline (Donald) Scherer, Donna (Reuben) Otto; one sister-in-law, Lucille Pohlman and two brothers, Leland (Ria) Schultz, and Emil "Mike" Schultz. Preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice (Edson) Nickel, Esther (Harvey) Kempen and one brother, Marvin Schultz. Lila will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and long time friends. Funeral Service for Lila will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 4, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 209 S. Allen Street, Appleton, with Pastor Lisa Ubbelohde officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church until the hour of the service with luncheon to follow. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum, Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Lila's name at Trinity Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.valleyfh.com.
