  Joan Marie Hazen, age 55, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was born May 22, 1958 in Appleton, WI, daughter of the late Emery H. and Mary C. (Groeschel) Krueger. Joan was employed with R.R. Donnelley of Kaukauna for the past seven years. She enjoyed Oldies music, butterflies, waterfalls, traveling, crafts, cross-stitching, reading mysteries and watching Wheel of Fortune and other TV game shows. Joan is survived by her two sons, Benjamin and James Hazen, (Appleton); Michael Dethardt (Appleton); Rosemary Baker (Town of Menasha); Emery R. Krueger, John Krueger, (Appleton); Timothy (Marlene) Krueger (Neenah); Barbara Krueger, Joe Krueger, Kristine Krueger (Appleton). She is also survived by the father of her children, John Hazen, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joan was preceded in death by her son, Alexander; parents; sister, Catherine; two brothers, David and Michael; brother-in-law, David Baker; and by several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 6:30 PM on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Valley Funeral Home, Appleton; with Rev. Mike L. Huff officiating. Joan's family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until the time of service. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Joan's name. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Martha Siekman Cancer Center and the staff of ThedaCare at Home Hospice for the wonderful care given unto Joan these past several months.
