  LEONHARDT, Peter is a native of this state and was born in 1854 Waukesha County; came to Appleton in 1876 and married Elizabeth Bauer in 1885. He opened a dry goods and grocery store on the corner of College Avenue and State street; retired from that business in 1894 and the following year engaged in the wood and coal business on the corner of College Avenue and Cherry Street. Residence, 531 Cherry Street. Children: Frances, April 18, 1882; Alice, February 1887, died in 1895; Hugo, May 8, 1889; died in 1897; Oscar September 18, 1891; Henry, July 12, 1893; Arthur, September 24, 1895.Taken from The Outagamie County Pioneer Record.

  Family History Researcher	Thank you Cindy, this is coming together pretty darned fast. Actually, I was not looking into this side of the family, leaving it to my sister's children to do the work on my mother's side. Then my brother sent to my sister some things that he had, that pointed to a John LEONARD. But it only gave the birth place as Ireland. Catherine B. Leonard would be a BERRY, and she is my great gr grandmother (John being my gggrandfather, to tell the truth). It seems as though Peter was the youngest, and now that I have given up the Wisconsin pictures to my sister - - cryinality! Oh well, the pictures did show that they were well off. Peter was to marry Julia Ann Gahagan (varient: Gaghan) from Sheboygan County. Wonder if that is close to Little Chute! Jim Peter LEONARD and Julia Ann GAHAGAN were my great grandparents on my mother's side. Peter came from Little Chute, Outagamie County, Wisconsin, and was born about June, 1860. His parents were both born in Ireland, probably around County Cork - but we are unsure of that at this time. His parents were John LEONARD and Catherine BERRY. Peter LEONARD married a Julia Ann GAHAGAN , and according to Wisconsin marriage records the date was June 14, 1886 in Outagamie County (Vol 2. page 0147 <http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/index.asp>.). According to other census data Peter was married once before he married Julia. They may have gone to the State of Washington where their children, Hazel (b. 1892) and Peter were born (1893 or 1894). At the time of the 1900 census they were in Washington with two children: Edward, born April 1887 in Michigan and Hazel, born March 1892 in Washington. (There is nothing in future census to show what happened to Edward, but Peter was born in 1893.) Julia Ann GAHAGAN was born in 1868 or 1869, and probably in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Her parents were also from Ireland: Michael GAHAGAN, b. circa 1820 - 1825, County Cork; and, Margaret HOUNIHAN probably County Cork, and maybe a townland near to Donaghmore. Margaret's parents have been reported as John HOUNIHAN and Honora (Nora) CARROLL, of Donaghmore, County Cork, Ireland. This is the totality of my information on these two great grandparents and if anyone could help in filling it out it would be greatly appreciated.   I found the marriage date of Peter and Julia. This link will take you to the Wisconswin vital records for pre-1907 http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/index.asp. There marriage date is June 14, 1886 in Outagamie Cty, Volume 2 page 0147. Julia's last name is spelled Gahagan according to the vital records index. But, according to the census Peter was married once before he married Julia! They were in Washington with the 2 children and then in 1920 Peter was back in Wisconsin living with his brother and sister. So he and Julia most likely divorced. Cindy
