  Elaine A. Smith, 87, passed away quietly early Friday morning, January 9th, after a brief illness. Elaine was born on February 17, 1927 to William J. Schultz and Helen M. (Day) Schultz. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Menasha. On June 14, 1947 she married Warren E. Smith at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. She had three sons: Steven E. Smith, Allouez, Peter W. (Denise) Smith, Appleton and James H. (Barbara) Smith, Appleton. She was also blessed with special granddaughters: Jennifer Smith, Andrea Smith, Nicole (Dom) Opsteen, Katherine (Lee) Kedrowski and Laurie (Jordan) Gross. In addition, she has nine great grandchildren: Celeste, Zoey, Peter, Easton, Mackenzi, Clayton, Penelope, Harvey D. and Addison. She also held dear her nieces: Janette (Jack) Mignon, Mary Helen (Ken) Walburn and her nephews: William (Terry) West, William (Mary) Schultz, Patrick (Margaret) Smith, J. Michael (Linda) Smith and her sister -in-law Eileen (Patrick) Smith. Elaine and Warren worked in real estate for a number of years before founding W.E. Smith Realty in 1968. After retirement Elaine maintained a busy lifestyle, enjoying family (especially her granddaughters), becoming prolific in ceramics and volunteering at the VA clinic in Appleton. A life member of the VFW Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Units #18 and #64, Elaine served as the DAVA State Department Commander from 1992 to 1993. A graduate of St. Therese Catholic Grade School, Elaine was a long time member of the Congregation, past president and member of the St. Therese Ladies and the Catholic Daughters. When her sons were young, she was also a den mother in the Cub Scouts. Elaine had an infectious smile, an inviting personality and was blessed to have many friends over the years. She will be greatly missed by her husband Warren and the rest of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother Robert Schultz, her sister Helen Lenz, her brother Earl "Rudy" Schultz, her sister- in- law Mary (Earl)Schultz, her brother-in-law Patrick (Eileen) Smith, her nephews John West and Thomas Schultz and her nieces Pat Christianson and Mary Brenner. Visitation will be at Valley Funeral Home 2211 N. Richmond St, Appleton, WI 54911 on Thursday, January 15th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The funeral mass will be at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton at 11:30 AM. Lord, I pray that whatever my family remembers of me-my temper, my rears, mistakes-please let them also remember the laughter and my deep love for each of the.
