  JOHN PUETZ IS BURIED WITH MILITARY HONORS The body of John Puetz, who gave his life for his country on the battle fields of France, was laid to rest in the family lot in Charlesburg on Monday morning with military honors. The body reached New York about a month ago and last week reached this city being taken out to the Puetz home last Friday afternoon. The funeral services were held with a Solemn Requiem Mass at St. Chares Church at which Fr. P. J. Nilles officiate with Rev. Frs, J. H. Huhn of Jericho and E. Stehling of Marytown assisting as deacon and subdeacon. Some forty-two members of the America Legion from his city and New Holstein attended the funeral in uniform and paid honor to the memory of their departed comrade, a firing squad of three ex-service men, Roger Mortimer, Wm. Diedrich and Gideous Wenninger, firing a salute over the grave. Taps was sounded by Joseph Hoffmann of Charlesburg. The deceased veteran of the world war is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Puetz of the town of Brothertown and was born on the homestead farm in that town on November 11, 1894. He spent his entire life on the farm with his parents until called into military service in defense of his country in the spring of 1918. He was mustered into the service at Camp Grant and after a short period of training left with his outfit for France. Later he was transferred to another outfit and took part in the Argonne offensive, being wounded in action about October 10. His wound was not serious but he was removed to a hospital where shortly afterward, he contracted pneumonia, passing away on October 20th. He was buried with many other comrades in a cemetery in France until a few months ago when the grave was re-opened and his remains sent back to this old home. The deceased was a popular young man in his home neighborhood and during his time in service has a splendid record as a soldier. The sacrifice that he has made on the alter of duty will remain ever fresh in the memory of his comrades and many friends. Chilton Times - January 21, 1921
