  Behnke, John R. John R. Behnke, a life-long citizen of Brillion, lovingly went to the Lo rd on Saturday, May 1, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton followi ng a stroke on April 3rd. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Br illion. The son of the late John A. and Vivian (Houghton) Behnke was bo rn September 16, 1917 in Brillion. He graduated from Brillion High Scho ol and worked all of his life and with his father at the National Lumber C o. in Manitowoc, after which he inherited the business along with his t wo brothers, Roger and Alan. He was an outdoorsman, loving the trees and b irds. His hobbies included bowling and boating. On December 28, 1940 he ma rried Gladys A. Greve whom he met in high school. Thereafter he became a d evoted husband and father and a gentle soul in all our lives. John R. Behn ke was 86 years of age at the time of his death, four years after his wi fe Gladys passed on. Leaving to mourn are two sons and a daughter: John and his wife Nancy, Rob ert and his wife Barb, all reside in Brillion; while Barbara lives in Miam i, FL; six grandchildren and their spouses, 18 great-grandchildren; a brot her, Alan of Brillion; two sisters-in-law: Verna Meyers of Sheboygan; Leno ra Ross of Neenah; a brother-in-law, Kenny Eichhorst of Brillion; and nume rous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vivian Behnke; his wif e, Gladys; his in-laws, Robert and Rose Greve; a brother, Roger; three sis ters-in-law: Marie Behnke, Bonnie Behnke, and Bernice Eichhorst; two broth ers-in-law: Vincent Meyers and Budd Ross. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 4th at 4 p.m. at Trinity Luther an Church in Brillion. The Rev. Ross Henzi will officiate. Burial wi ll be in Trinity Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Tu esday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. The Wieting Funeral Home in B rillion is assisting the family with arrangements. Come with Me God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so He put His ar ms around him and whispered “Come with Me”. With tearful eyes we watched h is suffer, and saw him fade away, And though we loved him dearly, we cou ld not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working han ds to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
