  On Monday afternoon, Dec. 6th, between four and five o'clock, Mrs. Anton Bell, while sitting in a chair at her home on Main Street, died without a moment's warning to herself or members of her family. For the past two years she had been troubled more or less with dropsy and for three months previous to her death had been worse than usual, though at times her condition would seem to improve. On the day of her death she appeared to be better, was in excellent spirits and able to eat a hearty dinner, no premonition being given that death was near. Gertrude Nellessen was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Egidius Nellessen and was born in Marytown, Fond du Lac County, June 7, 1850. In 1854 her parents came to Chilton where her father established the first blacksmith shop. In 1868 she was married to Anton Bell and she made this city her home for the past fifty five years. She was a woman of quiet ways who devoted her life to her home and family. She was kind and generous as a neighbor and a devout and sincere member of the Catholic Church. None knew her but to respect and appreciate her. The funeral took place Thursday from St. Mary's church and was largely attended. She is survived by a husband, four sons, Henry of Milwaukee, Nicholas A of this city, John and Anton of Berthoud, Colo., and two daughters, Miss Katie and Mrs. Peter Klein of this city. She also leaves two brothers, Henry and Nicholas Nellessen, and two sisters, Mesdames E. Kloety of Milwaukee and N. Hein of this city.
