  Letter to Niece Sister Generosa in 1956. It is about time I answer your letter, and tell you what I know about the BRILL family. My grandfather BRILL got a passport to come to America on May 16, 1838, when my father was 4 years old. My father didn't know anything about this trip. My Grandfather BRILL settled in a little town called Sheldon Center in New York State. He was a blacksmith by trade. He got to be 86 years old, but was childish in his old age. My mother got to be 72 years old, her mind was clear to the end, and my Dad 82, but his mind was also gone for about ten years or more. He had some brain trouble some years before my mother died, and it contributed to my mother's early death. They were good Catholics to the end. My parents were both hard workers in their younger days. My mother had too many children: 17, twice twins, right in succession, first 2 girls then 2 boys. I was the oldest of all of them and am the only one left now. The last one to die was Clara RACH. I will be 95 February 13, 1957, if I live that long yet. I am older now than most people get to be and I am not yet ready to give up the ghost. If I had lived in misery and pain, then I would be ready to have it over with. But, I am not in such bad shape yet to wish the end would come even if I don't feel to gay anymore. It isn't nice to be so old that we cannot do anything, or do it right anymore what little we can do yet. My eyes give me the most trouble. I cannot see very good, and make a lot of mistakes on that account. And it is also hard for me to read – I have to have a strong reading glass to read anything, and I would have so much time for it too. Guess I have answered all your question, and don't know what more I could say. One thing more: I was on the spot where my mother was born in New York State twice, in 1921 and 1934.
