  Richard C. Michels Richard C. Michels, 97, of West Bend, died on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 20 05 at the Health Care Center of Cedar Community.He was born on Aug. 31, 1907 in West Bend to the late Anton and Barbara (n ee Beck) Michels, and on June 24, 1930 he was united in marriage to Angeli ne M. Schnepf at St. Mary's Immaculate Concep-tion Catholic Church. She passed away June 21, 2004.He attended local schools, graduating from West Bend High School in 1926.He then became employed with the West Bend School District, becoming the f irst custodian at McLane Elementary School.At the time of his retirement in 1973, he was the building and grounds sup ervisor.Richard's kind and gentle personality will be remembered by family and fri ends, and also by many of the former students at the schools where he work ed.He was a charter member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish where he was an ush er for many years, and was a member and financial secretary of the Cathol ic Order of Foresters Court 458.Survivors include three children, Ruth (Frank) Salter of West Bend, Richa rd (Audrey) of Ger-mantown and James (Diane) of West Bend; nine grandchild ren; 18 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Jean Coffey of Appleton; a s ister-in-law, Marcella Michels; nieces; nephews; other relatives and frien ds.Preceding him in death were a grandson, Patrick Salter, two bro-thers a nd four sisters.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 11 a. m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, West Bend.Father Jeffrey Haines will be the presider, and burial will follow in Ho ly Angels Cemetery.Visitation at the church only will be on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:45 a. m. The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.Richard's family would like to extend a special thank you to the sta ff of Friendship House at the Health Care Center of Cedar Community for i ts care and support.
