Jane Ellen Cowling, (Erdman), Appleton, our blessed mother, grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 15, 2008. She was born on June 5, 1918, in the Town of Vinland, the daughter of the late Norman and Esther Erdman. She was a graduate of Neenah High School. Jane worked at Gilbert Paper Company before her marriage. She was united in marriage on June 26, 1948, at St. Margaret Mary's of Neenah, to the late Harold B. Cowling, who preceded her in death on March 6, 1996, after Jane cared for him for many years. She is one of four children, John, Richard and her surviving sister, Mary Jean Erdman. Her sister, Mary, made sure mom had everything she needed and was never lonely. She is further survived by her children, Joyce Cowling and her life partner, Karen Forer, Larsen; Louis Cowling, Lompoc, Calif.; Mary (Tom) Suellentrop, Chugiak, Ark.; Patty (Pat) Secard, Appleton; and Kathy (Ed) Kubichek, Appleton. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shawna Thrasher, Leland Secard, Elizabeth Suellentrop and Bill (Julie) Suellentrop. Jane is preceded in death by her beloved son, Norman, who preceded her in death in 1990; and her grandchildren, Alicia Cowling and Lucas Cowling. The funeral liturgy for Jane will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., Appleton, with Fr. Robert Karuhn officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family of Jane has established a memorial fund. Jane's family would like to extend a special thank you to Jane's daughter, Mary, who came home and assisted in caring for mom over the last year. Also to Valhaven Care Center and staff who helped mom's rehabilitation so she could return home after she fell and broke her hip. And also, thank you to Heartland Hospice, especially Stacy, for their care and support during mom's last days. Mom, we will miss you every day, your laughter, your wit, charm and beauty. You worried about us every day and now you can rest. Mom was a simple woman who loved her family, animals and beautiful flowers.
