  Milan "Smiley" George Vollmer, Age 84, of Hortonville, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. He was born on March 1, 1929 in Tigerton, son of the late George and Anna (Bloechl) Vollmer. Smiley served his country in the U.S. Army from 1949-1950, and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War from 1951-1953. On October 2, 1954 he was united in marriage to Vivian Schultz at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wautoma. Smiley was a barber in Hortonville for over 40 years. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vivian; his children: Trudy (John) Hill, New London; Matthew (Bonnie) Vollmer, Hortonville; Mary Vollmer, New London; Colleen Niemczyk, West Allis; Nicole (Mike) Jones, Wisconsin Dells; 7 grandchildren: Matthew (Stacey) Hill, New London; Jacob (Amanda) Hill, New London; Jesse Vollmer, Hortonville; Meegan Niemczyk, West Allis; Aneesha, Courtney and Dustin Arendt; 3 great grandchildren: Ethan James Hill, Aiden Matthew Hill and Charlie Johnathan Hill; one brother Ray Vollmer, Chippawa Falls; one sister Nancy (Virgil) Mueller, Hatley; brothers-in-law: Norman Opper, Birnamwood; Gordon (Arlene) Schultz; one sister-in-law: Greta Schultz, Greenville, MI. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Craig, a sister Janet Opper, and his mother and father-in-law Reuben and Evelyn Schultz. A Memorial Mass for Smiley will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville with Rev. Msgr. Jim Feely and Parish Director Greg Layton officiating. A gathering of family and friends will take place Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the church and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Full Military Honors will take place at the church immediately following the service. A special thank you to the Hortonville Police Department, Paramedics, and the staff at Theda Clark Medical Center and Hospice, for their care and concern of Smiley.
