  Myra Schmidt, 75, of Appleton, died Friday, August 23, 2013, at Appleton Healthcare Center. Myra was born January 27, 1938, in Shiocton, the daughter of the late Arthur and Stella (Dieck) Kuehl. She married Glenn R. Schmidt on June 9, 1957, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville. They were blessed with three children: Tammy, Kevin, and Kurtis. Myra was employed with the former Treasure Island Department Store and then J.C. Penneys for 32 years. Myra loved bowling and participated in leagues-Treasure Island Ladies league, Zion Lutheran Church league, and the South Greenville Grange Couples league. She taught Sunday school at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton for 20 years. Myra and Glenn were polka dancers and traveled to polka fests whenever they could. She had a beautiful garden and enjoyed growing flowers. Spending time with her grandchildren was very important to her. Myra was a very caring person, reaching out to her resident family at Appleton Healthcare, and she cared very deeply for her animals at their Town of Clayton home. Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Glenn; daughter, Tammy Schmidt, Menasha; two sons: Kevin Schmidt, Neenah, and Kurtis (Doreen) Schmidt, Porterfield; her grandchildren: Joshua and Ariel, both of Appleton; daughter-in-law, Gale Schmidt, Menasha; four sisters: Shirley (Norman) Fischer, Marion; Joyce Tagliapietra, Embarrass; Judy Vyse, Appleton; and Debbie (Larry) Sprotte, Medford; two brothers: Jerome (Shirley) Kuehl, Stephensville, and David (Theresa) Kuehl. Symco; sisters-in-law: Delores Krueger, Clintonville; Diane (Randy) Arndt, Marion; and Jeanette Schmidt, Florida; brothers-in-law: Harold (Jeanne) Schmidt, Marion, and Lloyd Thede, Neenah; an uncle, Arlen Dieck, Milwaukee, and an aunt, Beverly (James) Stoltz, Iola; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Vila Thede; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Tischauser, and brothers-in-law: Roy Schmidt and Clifford Schmidt. A memorial service for Myra will be Thursday, August 29, 2013, 5:00 p.m., at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton, with Rev. Leon Knitt officiating. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Myra's honor. The family would like to thank the staffs at Appleton Healthcare Center, ThedaCare at Home Hospice, and St. Elizabeth Hospital for their care and support given to Myra.
