Joseph Edward Schomisch, 81, of Chilton, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Calumet Medical Center. Joseph was born February 13, 1934, in Stockbridge, son of the late Jerome & Leona (Mueller) Schomisch. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Photo Lab Specialist. On January 2, 1971, Joseph and Mary Grenzer were united in marriage at St. Mary's Church in Chilton. He was employed as a foreman for Chilton Metal Products for over 35 years until his retirement in 1996 and then began working for Walmart. Joseph was involved with the VFW Post 3153 Chilton, American Legion Post #125 Chilton, and the longest serving member of the Jolly Fishermen's Club in Quinney (since 1969). Lake Winnebago was his home away from home. Joe always enjoyed sharing his love of fishing with anyone in the community-- Fish feared him, women loved him. If you ever needed to know the lake conditions, Joe could give you the forecast so you wouldn't waste a trip. Joe, along with his brothers, was an exceptionally talented and gifted athlete lettering in several sports throughout high school. It didn't stop there; Joe continued to be an active golfer and was known to win a championship or two at Hickory Hills Country Club. Joseph was certainly a Jack of all Trades who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, going to (and hosting) rummage sales, and always appreciated playing a good round of cards. In May of 2015, Joe had the privilege to visit Washington D.C. on the Old Glory Honor Flight where he was showered with gratitude and recognition from folks of all ages. All who knew him will remember him for his happy go lucky personality and his great talent of whistling just about anything-if you could hear whistling, you knew Joe was near. Survivors include his wife, Mary (Grenzer) Schomisch of Chilton; three children, Shelly (Bill) Tyson and their children, Megan, Dylan, and Gavin, all of Chilton, Edward Joseph Schomisch of Appleton, and Darcy Schomisch of Appleton; sister, Jeanne Kuhn of Brookfield; brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law, Jan Schomisch, Barb (Lon) Schroeder, Joanie (Mike) Slominski, Marguerite (Kurt) Myers, Charles (Marleen) Grenzer, Kenneth Grenzer, and Bob Suttner; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome Schomisch and John Schomisch; one brother-in-law, Dan Kuhn, and three sisters-in-law, Laurie (Nachtwey-Schomisch) Duffield, Carol (Grenzer) Suttner and Betty Grenzer. A Celebration of Joe's life will be held from 4:00pm - 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Hickory Hills Country Club (W3095 Hickory Hills Road) in Chilton. The family will hold a tribute service at 6:00pm and a toast to Joe at 6:30pm. Sure, sure gang…we'll meet you at the "big" lake. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Joseph E. Schomisch.
