  Mrs. Matthias C. Mertz of 282 Thirteenth street, died this morning at 12:45 o'clock after an illness of about a week's duration with pneumonia. She would have been twenty-five years of age February 2. Her husband is alderman from the Thirteenth ward and is a well known contractor and builder, associated with his brother in the firm Mertz Brothers. Four children also survive. The funeral will be held Friday morning from St. Vincent's church on Oregon street. The services were very largely attended and the floral tributes were profuse beyond the ordinary. Among those present from out of the city were Mr. and Mrs. Julius Mertz, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mertz, Frank Kirch, Charles Hashek, Mrs. William Dryer, all of Milwaukee, Mrs. Zalsinger of Chicago.
