  Heart Attack Is Fatal for John Gallatin Pressman and Spanish-American War Veteran Stricken During Sleep Seized with a heart attack as he slept Sunday evening, John Gallatin 63 a pressman at the Kenosha Evening News for 31 years and widely known throughout the community died at his residence 6616 19th avenue. News of his sudden passing comes as a shock to his legion of friends and relatives. Apparently in good health as he spent the afternoon on an automobile ride with members of his family the deceased gave no indication of an illness when he retired. He was stricken during the night and failed to respond to medical treatment. Settled in Oshkosh John Gallatin was born in Molis Switzerland on October 28 1876 the son of the late Mr and Mrs Melchor Gallatin. He came to America with his parents at the age of four years and settled at Oshkosh Wis where he spent his early life and was educated. As a young man he started work in a printing shop in Oshkosh and later worked for the Daily Northwestern newspaper there. He later lived in Appleton and Kaukauna Wis coming to Kenosha in 1909 and has made his home here since that time. For the past 31 years he has been employed as a pressman at the Kenosha Evening News where he was well known and greatly admired. Spanish War Veteran On April 5 1910 he was united to Miss Catherine Vils. He was a devout christian being a member of the St Mark's Catholic church. He was also a member of the Spanish War Veterans in which he was active. He was also a member of the Printing Pressmen's union. The deceased enlisted as a private in Company B 2nd Regiment of Wisconsin Volunteers in April 1898 and saw service in the Porto (sic) Rico expedition and the battle of Coamo. He was also a member of the Wisconsin Guard. Funeral on Wednesday He is survived by his widow and by 3 sons and 3 daughters: Edward Gallatin of Centura California; Herbert and John Gallatin of Kenosha; Rose Gallatin of Kenosha, Mrs Robert Ritter of Neenah Wis and Catherine Gallatin of Kenosha. He is also survived by two grandchildren Robert and Patricia Ann Ritter and by one brother and 3 sisters; Albert Gallatin of Milwaukee; Mrs Jake Lieberherr of Cameron Wis; Mrs August Pinske of West Allis Wis and Mrs Nick Schmitt of Milwaukee. The body is at the Hansen funeral home where funeral services will be held Wed morning at 8:30 oclock. the cortege will then proceed to St Mark's Catholic church where mass will be read at 9 oclock, interment following in the family plot in St James cemetery Kenosha Evening News Monday September 2 1940
