  Biography	On May 11, 1847, Johannes sailed for 55 days on the ocean aboard the Princess Sophia from Amsterdam, Holland to New York with this brother Matthias, sister Petronella and her husband Christoffel Pals. From there, they traveled by boat to Albany and then to Buffalo, where they took a boat to Milwaukee, arriving during the summer months. Meeting some Hollanders at Milwaukee, they were persuaded to take some land in Sheboygan County as there were Hollanders in that vicinity. On August 5, 1847, he arrived in Holland Township, where he purchased a parcel of land in the township of Lima, adjoining the property of the present St. George Catholic Church in the township of Lima, Sheboygan County. This area was known as "Six Corners" because 6 roads intersect nearby. The Township of Wison tax rolls for 1869 list John's assets as 164 acres, valued at $1,950, 2 horses, 16 cattle, 15 sheep, 1 swine, 1 wagon and no dogs. Value of his personal property was $780. John was a big man, 6'5" tall and 325 pounds. He could reportedly hold 7 beer steins in one hand. In 1867, St. George Church was builts on John and Alegunda's land. The bricks used to build the curch were made in the brickyard owned by John's brother Mathias, and transported 4 miles to the site of the new building. Stained glass windows in the church bear their names.
