    • EMAIL Date: 7/08/2003 6:12:34 PM Pacific Standard Time From: billpoe@networld.c om Dear Jay Wilpolt: Thanks for your inquiry and the information you sent. Since I recei ve hundreds of inquiries both from Family Search Dot Com where my addre ss appears, and e-mails from Ancestry Dot Com where my e-mail address appe ars I shall give you in detail how and why the name Nicholas Ruppert appea rs there. A am a writer, and a Poet, as well as a researcher: My mother's li ne was Crook, and my fathers line was Lyon so I have done extensive resear ch on both lines. Way back in 1969 I started to research for a book of history on my mo thers line that I had promised my Grandfather way back in 1950 before he p assed away that I would carry on what he had started, in 1893 when he ma de a trip to England to research on his line, Crook, for the LDS Churc h. It took me until October of 1992 to complete the book, which was put o ut for Crook Family Members. In so doing I done a lot of traveling, writi ng and researching. Marilyn Bernstein of La Guna Beach, California supplied me with this n ame of Ruppert since it is on her line of Crook's, as well as a Janice Cro ok who was from Illinois. Their tie in to the Crook Family comes through V irgil Crook, of Dodgeville, Iowa County, Wisconsin, which is one of the sp ots we visited to get information for this book. Virgil Thomas Crook's 3rd. Great Grandfather, Thomas Crook of Turto n, Lancashire, England was also my 3rd. Great Grandfather. Virgil marri ed Alice Katherine Meyer in Arena, Iowa County, Wisconsin. She was bo rn to Nicholas Meyer and Mary Boylan, Nicholas Meyer was born to Mary Rup ert, whose father was Nicholas Rupert. So the Ruperts are really no relati on to me but so as not to leave anything out of the Family History Progr am or the Book this information was entered into it so as not to offend a ny of the people that supplied me with the information. Since the information was put into the Family Search Program and the b ook came out I have had hundreds of inquiries about things that were wron g. One came from a person in Boise, Idaho who told me his father was not b uried in Boise, Idaho, but Meridian, Idaho. I wrote and told him that I h ad entered it as died in Boise because he died in a Hospital in Boise, Ida ho but had no idea where he was buried so didn't enter that there. I ha ve tried to get hundreds of these items changed that were given to me wro ng but to no avail. I spent two years working on and finding mistakes a nd submitting them to the LDS Church on a 3 and 1/2" Floppy Disc and th at was 4 years ago and as recent as a month ago made a special trip up the re to find out if and when these mistakes would be corrected. Most of th em were even submitted by my own brothers wife who since have stopped comm unicating with me, telling me they were glad I was interested in Family Hi story but he wasn't and to quit bugging him about it. As for Marilyn Bernstien, I used to have her e-mail address and her ad dress, but she has had both changed, and my mail was returned, with no ans wer from my e-mail, so I have just give up.Janice Crook in Illinois, kept a master copy of my book so I can no long er get copies remade and won't answer me any more so I gave up on that too . I am getting up in years now and have had what I love the most beco me the most painful part of my Life, doing Family History. I had a parti al Stroke 2 years ago which has left both of my legs partially paralyz ed so I can no longer walk and am confined to sitting home in front of t he computer trying to answer e-mails for mistakes that others gave me a nd apologize for their knowledge of guessing instead of finding the accura te times, dates, and places that I used in their behalf. I am sorry for this minor mistake but doubt I shall be here on this e arth much longer to worry about it so please forgive me for using somethi ng someone else either sent or gave me that was wrong since I trusted the ir research information but have since found out how wrong I was, and h ow painfull it has been, being filled with threats and insults time and ti me again. I still remain, devoted to writing, William G. Lyon ( billpoe@networld .com ) Again thanks for your information I shall keep it in my file along wi th your address. I used to have my owna Home Page with much Family History, Poetry, pi ctures too, but since it netted me so much ridicule, I deleted every b it of it off the Internet, and it is no more. I shall take a moment and check your out after I send this e-mail.
Date: 7/09/2003 7:26:15 PM Pacific Standard Time From: billpoe@networld.c om Dear Jay: Incidently, I have a brother Jay whom I tried many years ago to g et to help me with my research. He told me he was glad I was interest ed in Geneology, but he wasn't so don't bug him about it, and then wh en I completed my Book on the Crooks, never even wanted one. There were ov er 300 of them printed and they sold for $25 and two of his sons got one b ut he was not interested. He said it was a waste of his time, so we have g one our seperate ways, since I have accomplished my goal in doing this I h aven't seen him in well over 5 years and he lives just 30 miles away. Wh en he finally got e-mail I wrote him several times and he said he didn't h ave time for my Idle Chit Chat so we don't communicate any more. The last time we were in Iowa County, Wisconsin was about 6 years ag o, we flew into Cedar Rapids and then one of my Crook Cousins and her husb and picked us up and took us back again to visit those we could find and o ne distant cousin said, in surprise, I didn't expect to see you any more s ince he was older than myself, then 3 years ago he passed away. So many ha ve passed on since our first original visit both to there, and to Meadow G rove, Madison County, Nebraska where so many of them migrated to and farme d, then moved on. One very close Cousin ( I called them all Cousins-althou gh most were 2nd and 3rd. Cousins). She was almost like my older sister a nd she now has passed on too, so only one that I have kept in touch with t here, still lives in Peosta, Iowa, which is not too far from Dodgeville, W isconsin where most of them resided. Oh, there are hundreds of the young er generation there but the ones I knew have passed on. My Grandfather used to tell me of them as a young lad of 8 years of a ge and got me interested in Geneology before his death when he died, I w as 25 years of age and he left me 17 volumes of his Journals and Diarie s, records and over 50 letters he had recieived from several of them. Th is is how and why I started to write to them and kept in touch until th ey passed on. My Great Grandfather, John Crook, was 19 when he came to America wi th his father, his mother had passed away and he came with his two siste rs to Council Bluffs, Iowa. He came on to Utah, but his father died the re in Council Bluffs, his sisters stayed back in Nebraska and Iowa, marri ed and raised their families. His Cousin, Peter Crook came to Standard, Io wa County, Wisconsin and Wilbur was one of the descendants of this Peter C rook. Two of Peter Crook's sons moved down to Meadow Grove and then ma ny of their descendants moved all over the Country. I have been in touch w ith one in Arizona, still write to one in Colorado, California and Iowa. B ut most have passed on now, except of course for the younger generatio n, of which I don't know. About two weeks ago we took Trax and went to Salt Lake to check and s ee if and when the updated and corrections I gave them two years ago in Ma rch were ever going to be entered onto the PAF Program in Family Search, a nd could find out nothing. I spent over two years searching out and correc ting so many mistakes I had discovered and found but now I'm beginni ng to wonder if they will ever get corrected in my day. Since my fall a nd partial stroke two years ago my battle with doing what I want to has ca me to a screeching hault, since I am unable to travel any more and about t he only way we go is on Public Transportation (Trax-Lite Rail). Neith er my wife or myself can drive very far and our kids and grandkids are t oo busy to impose on, so we stay home most of the time and hope they wi ll at least keep in touch, which they do, we have 25 descendants now, kid s, grand kids and great grandkids and our 5th. Great Grand daughter is d ue shortly and we love them all and keep in touch with each and every o ne of them. Thanks for your interest in Geneology, and incidently the old Crook Fa rm still stands in Standart, Iowa County, Wisconsin, Robert Pennbethy pass ed on but his wife still lives there. The original home I have many pictur es of and doesn't look much different over the years since it was first bu ilt, just a new paint job, ocassionaly. The last time we were there it w as in the Soil Bank Program and nothing was being raised on it, but that w as 6 years ago, can't say today, but Beverlee Larson who is one that I ke ep in touch with in Peosta, Iowa still goes up there about once a year a nd keeps me informed, yes, she has been out here to Sandy, Utah too and vi sited us. She is about 70 now so younger than I am but we keep in touch. Thanks again and don't give up research, you might want to check o ut the Ancestry Dot Com Site too, since it also has about the same on i t, but has been copied, and duplicated by several other submitters sin ce I first put my information there. I checked out your Web Site since I wrote you the last e-mail, us ed to have about 50 pictures on mine as well, as Pedigree Charts, and Fami ly Group sheets, but it's all deleted out now, as well as my Geo Cities Si te which had over 450 of my Original Poems plus Geneology, it's all gone t oo, since I got harrassed so much and my e-mail address there created so m uch "Spam" I deleted it all out, now all I have is about a dozen Poe ms on the Senior Site under Poems that Rhyme. Now I save my Sanity by writ ting e-mails and responding to people who care and thanks for your cari ng since it means a lot after so much ridicule.
