  Manitowoc Woman Burns to Death Electric Pad Sets Fire To Cripple As She Falls Asleep MANITOWOC, Wis. - Mrs. Dudley Cuthbert, 53, a cripple, was fatally in- jured Thursday when she went to sleep without turning off an electric heating pad which was not equipped with protective devices. A physician who examined her body said that death was caused partly from suffocation. Her clotting was almost entirely burned from the body and the residence was slightly damaged before the fire could be extinguished. Before her marriage she was Miss Theresa Vollendorf and was well known as a business woman. She became an. invalid many years ago as the result of a fall. Manitowoc Herald News | Manitowoc, Wisconsin | Friday, March 13, 1931 | Page 2 Failure To Turn Off Heating Pad Results In Fatal Burns Manitowoc. - (Special) - Failure to turn off the current of an electric heating pad before she went to sleep caused the fire which resulted fatally for Mrs. Dudley Cuthbert, 53-year-old cripple who was burned to death at her home, 1234 S. Sixteenth street, early Thursday afternoon, an investigation today revealed. Burns and suffocation caused her death when she was unable to escape from her home after flames had enveloped the davenport on which she was reclining. Her husband, also a cripple, was at work in a local factory and she was alone at home. The house was slightly damaged by flames and smoke. Mrs. Cuthbert before her marriage was Miss Theresa Vollendorf. She operated a millinery business here for a number of years.   APPLETON MAN TO CLAIM A BRIDE IN CITY Miss Theresia Vollendorf and Dudley Cuthbert to Wed Monday Invitations have been issued for the marriage of Miss Theresia Vollendorf, of this city, and Dudley E. Cuthbert, Apple ton, at present a resident here. The wedding will be solemnized at St. Boniface church Monday morning at 6 o.'clock and the couple will leave on honeymoon and will return here to take up their home. Miss Catherine Cuthbert of Appleton and Thomas Ryan will attend the couple in the ceremony. Miss Vollendorf was formerly engaged in the millinery business in tihis city.
