  Notes	Twin brother of William Sprangers. On his birthday in 1847, he sailed from Amsterdam, Holland to New York wi th his brother John, being 55 days on the ocean. From there, they travel ed by boat to Albany and then to Buffalo, where they took a boat to Milwau kee, arriving during the summer months. Meeting some Hollanders at Milwau kee, they were persuaded to take some land in Sheboygan County as there we re Hollanders in that vicinity. On August 5, 1847, he arrived in Holla nd Township, where he purchased 160 acres (quarter section) of land on Sec tion 6 in Holland. He took a prominent part in the early development of Holland Townshi p. A Republican in politics, he was called upon by his townsmen to fi ll a number of offcial positions. He was a member of the Town Board, a nd also of the County Board of Supervisors for many years. He was the ori ginator of the Town Holland Fire Insurance Company, of which he serv ed as President until his death. Home on north end of the original village of East Oostburg has "MS/1866" i nscribed above door. Currently (2001) owned by Bob Vercouteren. The orig inal 1866 house was built very similar to homes in Holland. One long hall way from front to back, with rooms off the hallway. All rooms had doo rs to conserve heat in the winter. Remember, in 1866, there were no forc ed air furnaces, just wood burning fireplaces and potbellied stoves. The bricks for the house and the St. George Church came from the brickya rd owned by Mathias. The mud for the bricks came from the Black River, wh ich flows just south of the 1866 house and empties into Lake Michigan. T he brickyard was located in Sec. 32 Town of Wilson, four miles from St. Ge orge.
