    Marcella R. Leis, 77, of Sparta died Friday, November 23, 2007 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. She was born on October 5, 1930 on Fish Creek Ridge, Town of Portland, Monroe County, Wisconsin to Frank and Mina (Job) Weinke. She grew up on Fish Creek Ridge and married Nyle Leis on October 15, 1951 at St. Mary's Ridge.
    After marriage they lived in Cashton. Marcella worked at the Tobacco Warehouse in Viroqua. They purchased a farm in Big Creek in 1960. They farmed until 1976 when they moved to Sparta. She worked at DeComet and then at Spartek. Marcella worked at Speed's Bike Shop as a bookkeeper for 12 years.
    She is survived by her husband, Nyle of Sparta; her children, Connie (Gordon) Bakken of Sparta, John Leis of Michigan, Lambert (Pamela) Leis of La Crosse, Milton (Rose) Leis of Sparta; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence (Darlys) Weinke of Centralia, WA, Douglas (Joyce) Weinke of Rockland; three sisters, Elaine (Clare) Schwarz of Sparta, Erma Leis of Sparta and, Edith Webster of Sparta.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, and two brothers-in-law.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta with Father James Leary O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
    Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
    The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

    John E. Leis, 61, of Roscommon and formerly of Sparta, died at home Friday, Nov. 8, 2013. A celebration of life will be 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1, 2013, with a 2 p.m. service at Faith Evangelical Free Church, Sparta. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Markey Baptist Church, Roscommon. Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, and Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, are assisting the family.
    John E. Leis, age 61, of Roscommon, MI, formally of Sparta, WI died peacefully at his home on Friday, November 8, 2013. He was born on September 19, 1952 to Nyle and Marcella (Wienke) Leis. He graduated from Sparta High School. John enlisted in the Army as an Air Borne Ranger. John enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. But most of all he was willing and able to help a friend in need. He is survived by his wife, Michele of Roscommon, MI; his father, Nyle of Sparta; sister, Connie (Gordy) Bakken of Sparta; brothers, Lambert "Bert" Leis of Westby, and Milton (Rose) Leis of Sparta; step children and grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella; and two sons, Eddie Wayne and Jonathon. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on December 1, 2013 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m. at Faith Ev. Free Church, 6644 State Hwy. 16, Sparta, with Pastor Matt Miklasz officiating. A memorial service will be held November 24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Markey Baptist Church in Roscommon, MI with Reverend Dr. James N. Kent officiating. The Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, MI, and Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with arrangements.
