Obituary:
Wencil Froelich, 94, longtime Bellevue resident, died peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011. He was born June 14, 1917, in Bellevue, to the late Charles and Margaret (Kustka) Froelich. He married the former Luella Guns on Sept. 28, 1940, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Wencil was a charter member of St. Philip and St. Bernard parishes. Wencil and Lou farmed in Bellevue for 60 years. Wencil served as Bellevue Town Chairman for 16 years. Under his leadership he was instrumental in the development of Bellevue as we know it today. He was a charter member of the Bellevue Business and Professional Association. Wencil served on numerous community organizations. He volunteered his time and talents until his health wouldn't allow. Whether it was the United Way, St. Vincent DePaul, his parish or the organization of the Junior Jets 4-H club, he always had time for others. In 2000, at the age of 82, he attended classes and obtained his GED. Wencil was currently a member of St. Bernard and the Knights of Columbus Council #10243. He lived a full life. His faith, family and friends were most important to him. Wencil and Lou enjoyed traveling in their retirement and spending time with their family. He always enjoyed sports and never turned down the chance to play a game of cards.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Luella; and their six children, Jerry (Judy) Froelich, Bellevue; Jeanne (Myles) Belke, Bonduel; Richard "Dick" (Paula) Froelich, Steve (Lori) Froelich, all of Bellevue; Cheryl "Cheri" (Bill) Chaudoir, Sturgeon Bay; Sue (Brad) Bessert, Roberts Lake; 16 grandchildren, Denise (Mike) Baeten, Dave (Julie) Froelich, Becky (Frank) Gallo, Robert (Jodi) Belke, Julie (Jim) Lamack, Chad (Jody) Froelich, Valerie (Jack) Mlnarik, Gregg Froelich, Marty (Mandy) Froelich, Charlie (Lauren) Froelich, Johnny Froelich, Michelle (Lanh Nguyen) Chaudoir, Dana (Gabe) Mattingly, Kristin Chaudoir and fiance, Bryan Howard, Holly (Alex) Edwin, Ben Bessert; 29 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Agnes Simons, Bellevue; Dorothy Brown, California; and Ceil Vanden Langenberg, Abrams; special niece, Dolores Eisch, De Pere; his in-laws, Isabel Puyleart, Bellevue; Ursula Puyleart, Ledgeview; Carol (Ron) Brice, Bellevue; Jim (Sally) Guns, Denmark; Arlene Guns, Glenmore; Don Delaruelle, Bellevue; Marilyn Guns, Bellevue; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Benjamin Froelich, Albert (Regina) Froelich, Emma (Max) Koehler, Joseph (Ruth) Froelich, Eleanor Heimerl, Marie (John) Schweppe, Norbert (Dee) Froelich; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Tony Manders, Don Simons, Frank Brown, Don Vanden Langenberg; Ray Guns, Gordy (Joyce) Guns, Laverne Delaruelle, Robert Guns, Richard Puyleart and Ray Puyleart.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside La., until time of Mass. Parish Wake service 7:30 p.m. Monday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. Dave Pleier officiating. Entombment in the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
