1.3 Mary Powers who went by the name of “Minnie”, was born Oct 24, 1868.

For as long as 6 years, Mary or Minnie Powers Patterson was one of my genealogy "Brick Walls." We did not know where she went or what happened to her after she last appeared in the 1880 census. Finally, a old letter from a cousin, listed her as Minnie Patterson possibly residing in Oregon.

She married a man named Patterson. In 1888 she is found as a witness to her sister Anna Powers marriage to David O’Connell in Marinette. There is a mention of Minnie in her sister Anna (Powers) O’Connell’s obituary in 1912 as Mrs. Patterson of British Columbia, but a search of that area has not located any information.

She then is found in the 1920 census living in Portland, Oregon. Listed as widowed and age 58, she is residing on Third St. and her daughter Harriet, newly married to Harry E. Stewart is living with her. Harriet is listed as age 26, born in the State of Washington, her father being born in Canada and her mother born in Wisconsin. She is married to Harry E. Stewart, age 25,  born in Oregon and is employed as a logger.

In the 1930 Census, Minnie and Harriet are found in Olympia, Washington. Minnie is listed as the head of the household, age 67, residing at 941 E. 5th Ave. Harriet, now age 33, is listed as divorced and working as a waitress in a hotel. A son Arthur Stewart, age 9, born in Oregon is attending school.

The State of Washington lists that Minnie (Powers) Patterson died in Olympia on 11/20/1931. Her death certificate does not list a place of burial. It does give her maiden name as Powers and that she was born on Oct. 24, 1868. It does not list the name of her husband. A brief obituary in the Olympia newspaper lists only her two daughters as survivors and also that she had 3 grandchildren.
