Mary (Maria Magdalena "Maymie") Stein was born to Hubert and Susan (VanRooy) Stein in Appleton and entered St Clara's Convent, Sinsinawa, Grant, WI, in 1903, professing her vows in 1904 and taking the name Sister Mary Dorothy. She taught early elementary grades in Wisconsin and the Chicago area until ill health forced her retirement in 1940. She died at St Clara's Convent in Sinsinawa and is buried in the convent cemetery.
