  Biography	John De Goey was born in Uden, Netherlands in 1870 and died in Combined Locks,WI at the age of 71 on October 13,1941. He attended school in Netherlands. He did farming for a living. He married Petronella Van Deursen in 1897 in Netherlands. He wore wooden shoes, and while he was courting Petronella, it was a custom to take off his wooden shoes and leave them outside by the door. Sometimes some of the boys in Netherlands would fill his wooden shoes with water, and on cold winter nights while he was visiting his girl, the water would be frozen in his shoes when he came to put them on again. He moved to the United States in 1905 at the time Teddy Roosevelt was president. He was the only one in his family that came to the U.S. He came across with his family on the "Postdam" ship, which was the fastest ship in those days. They were on board for 14 nights and 12 full days. They settled in Little Chute,WI. Later he moved to Stanley,WI where they took up farming.
