- Katherine E. Engelhardt, 78, Sherwood, passed away on Saturday morning, Jan. 3, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Aug. 11, 1930, in High Cliff, daughter of the late Theodore and Anna (Fiedler) Meyer. On Aug. 19, 1947, she was united in marriage to Carlton Engelhardt and together they celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Katherine had been a cook and waitress for a number of area restaurants over the years. She was known for her baking skills which included pies, cakes and cookies. She enjoyed gardening, her flower gardens and bird watching, especially the cardinals. She had been active in the Ladies Auxiliary of Sherwood. More recently, she enjoyed traveling and taking special trips with her friend, Dave Sugden.
Survivors include her very special friend, Dave Sugden, Stockbridge; her seven children, Carol Yokeum, Mountain; Terry (Margaret) Engelhardt, Appleton; Bonnie (Reed) Smith, Shiocton; Judy (Charles) Mader, Sherwood; John (Carla) Engelhardt, Sherwood; David (Nancy) Engelhardt, Kaukauna; and Jane (Todd) Frey, Appleton; grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Quandt, Anne (Nathan) Dahms, Aaron Yokeum, Michelle (Gilbert) Kruckeburg, Jason Engelhardt, Jesse (special friend, Tabitha) Smith, Howard (Sarah) Mader, Renae Luniak, Douglas (Cheryl) Mader, Conrad (Yvonne) Mader, Chris (Melisa) Engelhardt, Ryan (special friend, Sheena) Engelhardt, Andrea (Brian) Pauls, Kristin (special friend, Bob Voight) Engelhardt, step-grandchildren, Mike Damro and Natalie Damro, Jenny Frey and Jeremy Frey; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, John "Jack" Arnoldussen.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Carlton in 2000; a grandson, Jesse Engelhardt; three sisters, Evelyn (Clarence) Sturn, Lavina Hintz and Caroline Arnoldussen; two brothers, Gilbert (Florence) Meyer and Kenneth Meyer (her twin brother).
Funeral services for Katherine will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, N7510 Hwy. 55 & 114, in Sherwood. The Rev. Bill Schroeder will officiate. Interment will be in High Cliff Cemetery. Friends may call at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna, 920-766-2099, on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Katherine's name is being established.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the entire subacute staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
