- Giles "Charlie" G. Schmidt, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, in Appleton with his family by his side. He was born August 14, 1932, son of the late William and Esther (Boerst) Schmidt. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" LeNoble on October 6, 1955, in Seymour. She preceded him in death on January 4, 1998.
Giles was a Korean Army Veteran and was employed with Interstate ValWeld until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling, polka music, woodworking and family.
Survivors include his children: Gloria (James) Gore, Fremont; Audrey (Donald) Cunningham, Janesville; Charlotte (Jay) Green, Bellingham, WA; Marla (Mike) Van Heuklon, Freedom; Sharon (John) McFarlin, Harvard, IL; Kevin Schmidt, Freedom; daughter-in-law, Vickie Schmidt, Wabeno; nine grandchildren: Kimberly, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Cary, Daniel, Christopher, April, Alison and Abbey, seven great-grandchildren, brother: Harvey (Jeanette) Schmidt, MO; three sisters: Dorothy VanKauwenbergh, Green Bay; Marion Gaeurke, Shawano; and Ruth (Ken) Hock, New London; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Russell, one brother, Martin, one sister, Lilas, and one infant sister, Mildred.
Friends may call at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Freedom, on Friday, September 10, 2010, from 2 p.m. until funeral services at 5 p.m. with Pastor Dustin Sievert officiating.
