  DeGroot, Harold, AppletonAge 82, died Monday, March 31, 2003 at Cherry Meadows surrounded by his fa mily. Harold was born September 12, 1920 to the late Henry and Gertrude (B ekx) DeGroot in Askeaton, Wisconsin. He married Mable "Mayme" Van Berk el on January 17, 1942. She preceded him in death on August 28, 1987. Haro ld married Alice Stingle on November 4, 1995, she survives him. He serv ed in the U.S. Army during World War II seeing action in the 417th Bomb Gr oup in the South West Pacific and the Far East. Harold worked at Kimber ly Mill for 34 years until his retirement in 1977. He enjoyed spending ti me at his cottage in northern Wisconsin, gardening, the outdoors, card pla ying and winters in Zephyr Hills, Florida. Harold was also a past memb er of VFW Post 258 Little Chute.He is survived by his wife, Alice; four children: Jean ( Dick) Graph os of Appleton; Larry (Nancy) DeGroot of Little Chute; Carol (Mike) Hooym an of Stockbridge; and Joan (Cricket) Vandenberg of Freedom; nine grandchi ldren: Gerry (Rhonda) Graphos, Sherry (Jeff) Kubsch, Diana (Mike) McClon e, Scott DeGroot, Greg (Heather) DeGroot, Kelly (Jeff) Rickert, Missy (Da n) Angotti, Connie (Bill) Erickson and Jamie Vandenberg; 14 great-grandchi ldren; two sisters: Helen Melcher and Gladys Micke; four sisters-in-law: L orraine DeGroot, Esther Ermers, Shirley VanBerkel, and Katie Van Berke l. He will also be greatly missed by eight step children: Donald (Helen) S tingle of Clearwater, Florida; Mary (Nick) Grosskopf of Greenville; Shirl ey (Larry) Mercier of Appleton; Susan (Paul) Thiel of Appleton; Roy (Alic e) Stingle of Oshkosh; Thomas (Ruth) Stingle of Appleton; Daniel (Cheri e) Stingle of Palm Harbor, Florida; and Joan (Tim) Trettin of Kaukaun a; 18 step grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in d eath by his parents, his first wife Mable "Mayme", an infant son Gerry, t wo brothers John and Bill, a sister Leona (Ernie) Beulow, a sister-in-l aw Grace (George) Kettner, and three brothers-in-law Francis Micke, Berna rd Van Berkel and George Van Berkel.The Funeral Liturgy will be 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at St. T homas More Catholic Church, 1810 North McDonald Street, Appleton with F r. Gerald Falk officiating. Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday at Ch urch from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at H oly Name Cemetery, Kimberly with full military burial rites. A memori al is being established in his name. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Ka ukauna is assisting the family. 766-2099.A special thank you to Fr.
