Harriett Murphy was born August 3 0, 1896 in Freeport and died June 5, 1988 in Fullerton, California. d/o P atrick and Mary (McGinn) Cox. Married Arthur C. Murphy February 20, 19 30 in Freeport, Illinois. He died May 24, 1961. Survived by son Jam es A. of Riverdale. One daughter Marjorie (Mrs. Ron) Glasser of Placent ia and four grandchildren. Buried Calvary Cemetery, Freeport, Illinois.

  Murphy - Cox. A weddi ng of interest to a large circle of relatives and friends was solemnized t his morning at 8:00 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, where Miss Harriet Eliz abeth Cox and Arthur C. Murphy united in marriage by Reverend C. F. Conle y. The Nuptial Mass was sung by Charles and James Richards and Miss An na Victoria Lawless played the wedding march. The bride wore an import ed French blue crepe Elisabeth with Italian thread lace bishop sleeves, wi th hat and costume jewelry to match. She carried a bouquet of creamy t ea roses. She was given in marriage by her brother, George T. Cox. Mi ss Mary Burns was maid of honor, and her dress was imported print poppy ch iffon, with rhinestone trimming, black hat and gloves and her French bouqu et was made of tiny roses. William P. Cox, of St. Louis, brother of the b ride was best man. A wedding breakfast followed the ceremony at 10:0 0, at the home of the bride's mother, 818 South Liberty Avenue, and only t he immediate relatives of the two families were present. The bridal tab le was a forecaster of spring, jonquils, lavender hyacinths and ferns be en combined with baby primroses and arranged in all in silver bowls. T he bride and groom, amid a shower of rice and the best wishes left on a we dding trip to Southern California and will be home after the 15th of Marc h. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mrs. Mary Cox. She attended S t. Mary's School and later was graduated from the Freeport High school. F or a number of years she has held a position in the Illinois Central Divi sion offices. She possesses a rich soprano voice as a member of the St. M ary's choir. The many entertainment's given in her honor before her weddi ng attest in a marked degree the affection in which she was held by her fr iends. The groom is the son of Mrs. Mary Murphy of Monroe and his earli er years were spent in that city. After finishing high school he enter ed the employee of the Illinois Central. At the time of the World Wa r, he enlisted in the A.E.F. and saw service overseas. When he returne d, he resumed his former position. Among the guests who were here to atte nd the wedding were the bride's brother-in-law and sister Mr. and Mrs. Hu gh Kleckner and children, Malburn, William and Elizabeth Ann of Aurora, h er brother, William P. Cox of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Mary Murphy, of Monro e, mother of the groom, Mrs. William Fardy and little daughter of Fort Way ne, Indiana. 1930 Freeport Journal Standard dated 2/20/1930
