  See Image Summers, Maurice J."Morrie" passed away April 7, 2001 after a long illness. The oldest of 8 s iblings, Morrie was the one primarily responsible for the survival of t he family on a small farm in Wisconsin during the Great Depression. He ca me to San Diegoo in the late thirties and made his home here for over six ty years. He was a professional boxer with many fights at the old colise um at 15th and E street. He owned several saloons including the "Pirate 's Cave in Mission Beach, "Morrie's" on University Ave. and the "Blue Dolp hin" downtown. For the past twenty five years he drove a cab and owned t he Balboa Cab Co. Chances are if you lived in San Diego you've either ridd en in one of his cabs, enjoyed one of his coctails or listened to one of h is endless stories.Morrie was a husband to Mabel Summers, father of Dan and Maureen Summer s, and grandfather to Jonathan and Danny Summers, all San Diego resident s.
