- Merrill Burmeister of Appleton, age 79, passed away at the Appleton Medical Center on Sunday evening, December 4, 2011. Merrill was born December 30,
1931 in Appleton, son of the late Roy and Josephine (Schroeder) Burmeister. On November 5, 1954, Merrill married the former Jane Kolb; Jane preceded him in death in 2005. In 2007, he married Melinda Brandenburg Reppert. Merrill began his work career as a journeyman steamfitter, and later worked as a project engineer for different companies, most notably Johnson Controls. His most recent employer was Hurkman Mechanical in Green Bay. During the Korean conflict, Merrill also served his country as a member of the United States Navy.
Merrill loved to spend time at the "hunting shack" near Eagle River, hunting, fishing, motorcycles, travel, time with his dog Odie, and admiring the many forms of wildlife that visited him at the shack.
Merrill is survived by his wife: Melinda Burmeister of Appleton; a daughter: Nancy (Joel) Gudex of Fond du Lac; two grandsons: Drew and Dylan; a step-daughter: Rebecca Reppert - Klich of Appleton; two
step-granddaughters: Amelia and Libby; a brother: Harland Burmeister of Mountain; two sisters-in-law: Liz Burmeister of Crivitz and Connie Harrell of Appleton; a brother-in-law: William (Christine) Brandenburg of Des Moines, Iowa; and a foster brother: Alan (Linda) Stuart of Greenville. There are also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Merrill was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jane, and several brothers: Vilas (Bette), Lloyd "Bud" (Elvira)
A memorial service for Merrill will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at the Wichmann Funeral Home. Rev. Martin Ruge will officiate, and inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from
9:30 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
