  Notes	Col. Joseph DuCharme was a French fur-trader from Lachine, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Immigrating to Wisconsin in 1797, DuCharme was became a permanent French Canadian settler who established land in La Baye (now Allouez, Wisconsin) through his connections to John Jacob Astor's fur trading company, The American Fur Company. He had two brothers, Paul and Dominiue who settled in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. After settling in Allouez, Joseph had four sons, Joseph Jr., Paul, Toussaint and Louis. His children were particularly talented in music, especially his son Louis was considered the "official fiddler" of the settlement. The family, especially Joseph, Jr. were active in civic and church affairs in the Town of Allouez. The family was honored with "DuCharme Lane", a road which extends from W. Allouez Avenue down to Lazarre Avenue in Allouez, Wisconsin. It is believed that Joseph DuCharme, Sr. is buried in Allouez Catholic Cemetery next to his son, Joseph Jr. but because headstones were made of limestone instead of granite at the time, it is believed the headstone either was destroyed or severely eroded.
