Place List: W

The Place List contains all of the locations that have been entered into any of the many location fields. Whether it is for a birth, marriage, death or any event, they would all use the same Place record.

Searching for a particular place name will find only events with that exact place name used.

Places are standardized, if possible, to city/town, county, state, country.

Leaving the commas intact, provides for searching many levels, as ", , Wisconsin" will not only find locations with just Wisconsin in the place field, but also locations entered as "Appleton, Outagamie, Wisconsin" Try using county names to broaden your search for a particular event in a particular location. You may be searching for a person was born in Kaukauna, but possibly the data provided listed the birth in Buchanan, Outagamie, Wisconsin.

Only Geographic locations are used, with the exception of Churches and Cemeteries. Information like St.Elizabeths Hospital, should not be used and have been moved into the general notes field if present.

All places have been "Geo-coded" with Longitude and Latitude data, so that they may shown on maps.

With over 8,000 places in the database, there are sure to be some lat/long map co-ordinance errors. Please let us know if you find any, so we can correct them.
