    Obituary:
    Dr. George Hesslink, A memorial service was held Sept. 18 at Pomona College, Claremont, Calif., for Dr. George K. Hesslink, who died Sept. 13 after a brief illness.
    At the time of his death, Dr. Hesslink was an associate professor of sociology at Pomona College.
    He was born in Sheboygan June 10, 1940, the son of the late Norman A. Hesslink Sr. and Hildegarde Kuemmet Hesslink.
    He attended Grant School and graduated from Central High School in 1958.
    He received his bachelor of arts degree in 1961 from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., and earned a master of arts degree in 1963 and a doctorate degree in 1966, both from the University of Chicago.
    He married the former Joanne Mersberger in Sheboygan on June 24, 1961.
    He is survived by his wife; and one son, George, at home.
    He was preceded in death by a brother.
    Hesslink was a lecturer in sociology at Indiana University from 1963 to 1966, and was on the faculty at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J., prior to moving to Pomona College in 1969.
    He wrote the book, "Black Neighbors: Negroes in a Northern Rural Community," which was published in 1968.
    He served as chairman of the Sociology Department at Claremont Graduate School.
    A memorial fund has been established in his name for Pomona College.
