Begin Preparations for Resuming Operations as Manders' Body Is Found "With removal of the body of J. Mandels, DePere, from the wreckage of the collapsed portion of the Kimberly- Clark Paper Co. mill at Kimberly rescue work was completed and removal of debris from the wrecked seater room was temporarily halted Manders' body was found at 7:15 Tuesday night near the bottom of the debris, about ten feet from the west wall of the ruined section. His body was paitly immersed in water for several days after the collapse but the pit -was nearly dry when the body removed. It had been, buried in the moist pulp since about 10 last Friday morning. After the body was found the rescue squads were taken out of the pits and the men sent to their home-, to prepare for the work of resuming operations in the mill. With the finding of Slander's body the number of dead in the disaster was increased to nine. The dead are: Otto Krueger. Arthur Brockman. Norbert Goffard. J. Despins. Herman Sprangers. T. Manders. Peter Van Langveldt. Frank. "W. Johnson John Fiers. Eighteen men were more or less severely injured in the wreck but al are rapidly recovering. Some have been discharged from St. Elizabetl hospiital. Employes of the mill reported for work Wednesday morning and-began cleaning up the mill and making re pairs. It was stated by mill officials that operations on some of the ma chines probably will be resumed on Thursday morning. It also was said that shipment of paper from the mil probably will be .started in a day o tuo- During the time the rescue worl was in progress all other activitie, about the mill were completely sus pended and not a wheel was turned nor a nictn employed for any othe purpose than that of removing debris from the wrecked portion. Officials of the Kimberly-Clark Co "Wednesday expressed their sympathj for the sufferers in the accident an>~ their gratitude for and appreciatio; of the "limitless spirit of helpfullnes that has manifested itself on ever hand." Kimberly, Wis., Oct. 8 - Three men, buried for nearly 24 hours in the wreckage of the collapsed beater plant of the Kimberly-Clark paper mill here, were rescued alive Saturday.

Rescue workers continued their frantic efforts Saturday to reach six men still buried in the debris of Kimberly-Clark paper mill collapse here Friday. Three of the six are known to be alive despite injuries.
Six others were killed or subsequently died in hospital and 15 injured when the walls of the building, collapsed pinning the men beneath a mass of twisted concrete, steel and lumber.
Groans Speed Work
All night long the voluntary army of workers had toiled with the hope that those still buried might be reached alive. Moans heard occasionally throughout the night spurred rescue work.
The two story building of the paper mill collapsed apparently as a result of the weakening of one wall. It was believed the wall caved in because of burrowings under it. No definite reason has been assigned as yet. An investigation was under way to determine the cause.
Without warning, the walls crashed inward and the roof sank down.
Oiler Is Killed
There were 32 men employed in the plant. The paper mill was being repaired and a crew of a dozen men doing this work was also in or near the building when the collapse came.
John Fiers, killed in the crash, visited the part of the plant, which collapsed, only once a day. He made his daily visit to oil machinery just as the walls caved in.

Torches Cut Girders
Little progress was made through the night in digging into the heaped up mass. It was necessary to climb up ladders to reach the top of the heap and there was a great deal of trouble experienced in carrying away the debris. Acetylene torches were necessary to burn through the twisted iron girders.
The crash came without warning, he said.
"I don't know what happened." he said. "I suddenly found myself falling and then buried under the mass. Timbers had piled up around me and prevented any bricks striking me."

Paper Mill Town
Kimberly has a population of about 1,200. The town was built up around the paper mill, one of the largest of its kind in the country. Nearly everyone in the town gathered at the scene last night, but they were not permitted to get near the building.
Workers, cutting their way through the mass, were in peril constantly from fragments of the walls still standing.
The injured were given emergency treatment at temporary stations set up near the building, then were rushed to hospitals in Appleton, a few miles from here.

Three Men Buried Under Tons of Debris for 14 Hours Tell Story of Rescue
A tale of miraculous escape after spending nearly 14 hours buried beneath tons and tons of brick, steel, wood and pulp is told by three Kimberly men taken from the ruins of the collapsed beater room of the Kimberly mill, which collapsed Friday morning carying [sic] six men to their deaths and injuring 19 more. The men taken from the pit at 12 o'clock Friday night were Chester Mauthe, 20, married six weeks ago; George Pocan, 18, single; and Albert Jansen, 21.
The three men, with Arthur Brockman, 40, Kimberly, who died of injuries after being taken from the pit, were working together unloading pulp from trucks and storing it on the top floor. A truck had just been unloaded and Mauthe, Jansen and Pocan were sitting atop the pulp pile while Brockman had pulled the truck to the elevator to bring back another load.
Without warning there was a crash and the three men sitting on top of the pile were precipitated into a roaring inferno of flying bricks, steel, machinery, wires, pipes, masonry, pulp and lumber.

Thought of Earthquake

"I didn't know what happened but thought of an earthquake," said Mauthe. He talked in a low even tone, despite the hours of suspense in a small dark hole beneath tons of debris with the threat of death constantly staring him in the care.

"I looked above me and saw a huge black form coming down. I think it was a beater. There was a sudden flash, like lightning, as I passed a switch box which was caught in the collapse. I burned my arm against a hot pipe as I fell. The air was filled with steam, and dust and flying bricks and stones and I thought I was a goner, sure.

"I landed on top of Pocan in a hole not more than four feet long and a foot and a half wide and the tons of pulp above us stopped about a foot above our heads. After the noise had died down Pocan told me Jansen was beneath us and couldn't breath. I had landed in a sitting position. My two legs were doubled up to my chin under the pile of pulp and more pulp was pressing on the back of my neck. I was doubled up and couldn't move. Pocan managed to squeeze to one side enough to allow Jansen to turn his nose from the floor, so he could breath.

Afraid to Move

"I cautioned the fellows not to move because I was afraid any movement would bring that pile of pulp on us and crush us. It was pitch black and we could hear men hollering to the right and left of us. We called out too but no one seemed to hear.

"First we prayed, then we talked to keep up our courage and then we would cry for help. The pain in my legs was growing almost unbearable and at last I didn't care whether I died or not. But I kept telling the fellows to be brave and that we would be rescued.

Attracts Rescuers

"We could hear the men working above us and shout for help but they seemed not to hear because the sounds would fade away. We prayed some more and waited. The suspense was awful. It didn't seem possible that we would get out alive. Finally I heard another man walking above me and I hollered. He seemed to hear because immediately digging started above us. As the rescuers came closer, the pulp began pressing down from above and we were afraid that it might crush us before the digger could reach us. The pulp kept advancing inch by inch until when finally the picks broke through, it was but an inch or two above us. Believe me, we thanked God when we got out." Mauthe finished. Mauthe suffered a broken leg but the other two men were uninjured.

Pocan's story was similar to that of Mauthe, except he said he never doubted they would get out. He said they spent most of their time praying. Pocan said they thought it was about 2 o'clock in the afternoon when they were taken from the pit. Jansen was too busy consoling his mother and sister early Saturday morning to be able to talk. All three were crying and talking and laughing.

First to greet Pocan when he was taken out were his brothers, Clarence and Joseph, who started work with him at 7 o'clock Friday morning and another brother, Arnold, who arrived from Milwaukee at 6 o'clock Friday evening. The three brothers worked unceasingly and were rewarded by finding their "kid brother" alive.

One of the early arrivals at the accident was the Rev. F. X. Van Nistleroy, pastor of Holy Name church at Kimberly. He attempted to reach the rumors but was stopped by one of the deputized guards.

"You can't help down there father," said the guard.

Priest Wades in Water

"If I cannot save lives, perhaps I can save souls," the priest answered and waded about waist deep in water at times consoling the injured.

Another example of heroism was displayed by Martin VerKuilen of Medina who held his unconscious companion, Nic Fox, out of the water into which they were hurled when the rear of their dump truck was caught by the falling walls. The two were rescued by a boat and taken to the hospital where it was reported VerKuilen, although badly cut was not seriously hurt. Fox's skull is crushed and his condition is critical.

By a trick of fate, Henry Huber, employed as assistant beaterman on the first floor of the ruined section, had been sent outside the building a minute before the accident on the other hand John Fiers, an oiler, who visits that section of the mill only a few minutes each day, was caught in the crush and killed.

Arranges Funerals of 3 Killed at Mill

Final Rites for Brockman, Krueger and Goffard to be held on Monday

Funeral services have been arranged for three victims of the Kimberly mill disaster.

Services for Arthur F. Brockman, 29, will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning from Holy Name church, Kimberly. The Rev. F. X. Van Nistleroy will have charge. Brockman was born in Appleton and was employed for the last five years with the Kimberly-Clark company. He is survived by his widow, four children, Melvin, 4, Gerald, 3, Elaine, 2, and Gordon, 10 months, his father, Henry Brockman, Seymour, one sister, Mrs. Ben Wendt Seymour, two brothers Walter, Seymour, and Ewald, Appleton. He was a member of the Holy Name society.

Funeral services for Otto Krueger, 29, will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Kimberly Presbyterian church. Krueger is survived by his widow, three small children, four sisters, Mrs. Edward Manske, New London, Mrs. Emil Gutt, Bowler, Misses Alma and Ophelia, New London, three brothers, Fred, Tigerton, Arthur and Herman, New London. Krueger was employed for the last give years with the Meyer Construction company. He came to Kimberly about a year ago from Oshkosh. He was a member of the Fraternal Reserve association of Wisconsin Rapids. The body will be taken to New London for burial.

The funeral of Norbert Goffard, 24, Kimberly, will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning from St. Mary church, Oneida. He was born in DePere and 13 years ago moved to the town of Oneida where he lived until two years ago when he moved to Kimberly. He was married to Miss Marie Mignon of Appleton two months ago. The survivors are his widow, his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Henry Goffard of Oneida; seven brothers, George and Chester of Green Bay; Leonard of Kimberly; Archie Benjamin, Gerhart and Patrick of Oneida and one sister, Virginia of Oneida.

The body was taken to the home of his parents Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Father Vissers will conduct the services. Interment will be in Mt. Olive cemetery at De Pere. He was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Mary church at Oneida.

Adeline Van Densen, 89, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Vallhaven Care Center in Neenah. She was born on February 2, 1920, in Hollandtown, WI, daughter of the late John and Hattie (Peters) Sprangers. Adeline was united in marriage to Joseph Van Densen on November 9, 1940; he preceded her in death on June 23, 2007. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Menasha, and was a part of St. Mary's 3rd Order. Adeline loved to go camping and fishing. She also enjoyed crafting and painting.
Adeline is survived by her daughter, Pricilla Johnston; grandchildren, Annie Johnston, Sally Johnston; great-grandchildren, Ella Johnston Gerritts, Sidney Johnston Steinway; three brothers, Leo (Joann) Sprangers, Frank (Sally) Sprangers, John (Millie) Sprangers; two sisters, Marion (special friend, Ed Kramer) Oudenhoven, Rita (George) Trader; a sister-in-law, Janice Van Densen; and several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Matthew, Lester, and Anthony Sprangers; and a brother-in-law, Jerome Oudenhoven.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Radetski officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Town of Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. He was born on Nov. 22, 1927, in Hollandtown, WI; son of the late John and Hattie (Peters) Sprangers. Frank was united in marriage to Marcella Nieland on Nov. 19, 1949. He was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Appleton. Frank loved to go camping and fishing. He also loved gardening and cooking. He retired in 1989 from Oudenhoven Construction Co.
Frank is survived by his wife, Marcella "Sally" Nieland, seven daughters, Linda (Jim) Kirk, Jane (Bill) Pritzl, LuAnn (Scott) Geiger, Cindy (Dave) Kiser, Debbie (Bob) Goffard, Judy (Mike) Pozolinski and Bonnie (Marty) Fischer. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, brothers, Leo (Joan) Sprangers and John (Millie) Sprangers, two sisters, Marion (special friend, Ed Kramer) Oudenhoven and Rita (George) Trader.
Frank was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Sprangers, mother-in-law, Thersa Nieland, sister, Adeline Van Densen, brothers, Matthew, Lester and Anthony Sprangers, five brothers-in-law, Jerome Oudenhoven, Joe Van Densen, Melvin Wallace and Merlin Nieland and a sister-in-law, Margie Nieland.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Frank will be held on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 East Lourdes Drive, Appleton, with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Black Creek. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in his name.

Raymond Joseph Sprangers, age 92 of Appleton, WI (formerly of Hortonville, WI) was called home to heaven on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Ray was born June 11, 1921, to the late Mathias and Mary Rosella (Wallace) Sprangers; he was the eldest of their 14 children.
Ray was united in marriage to the late Julia (Berghuis) Sprangers on September 11, 1943. They were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary prior to her passing on November 12, 1993.
Ray is survived by his daughters Judy (Marty) Papesh, New London and Barb (Dave) Warning, Shiocton; son Ray Jr. (Jodi) Sprangers, Pine River; daughter, Patti Sprangers, Appleton; and son-in-law Dennis Coenen, Hortonville. He was the proud and happy grandfather of 15 grandchildren, 28 grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Ray is also survived by his siblings, Joseph (Clara) Sprangers, Margaret Foley, Dorothy Schmit, Agnes (Stanley) Socha, and Patrick (Judy) Sprangers; brother-in-law Stanley (Darlene) Berghuis, sister-in-law: Carol (Llewellyn) Kessler and Joan Kolosso. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and his special companion, Arlene Chouinard.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife Julia, daughter Donna Coenen, brothers: Daniel, Matthias, Edward, Myron, Florian, Hilary, Gerald and Thomas Sprangers; brothers-in-law: Ray Foley, Elmer Schmit, Ray (MaryJane) Berghuis, Clarence (Eunice) Berghuis; sisters-in-law: Lauretta (Paul) Revoir, Alice (James) Heineman, Rosine (Jerry) Neinhaus and Dorothy (Earl) Kerrigan and brother-in-law Donald Kolosso.
Ray served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Ironworkers Local #8 and worked at Azco Hennes for the majority of his career before his retirement in 1986.
Ray loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed all the grand-babies through the years. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards with friends and family, solving puzzles of all kinds including his daily newspaper Sudoku puzzle and playing solitaire with a well-worn deck of cards.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the caring staff in the emergency and intensive care units of St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the compassionate care during Dad's final hours.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Hortonville, with Msgr. Joseph H. Sprangers, age 91 of Little Chute, WI (formerly of Menasha, WI.) went quietly home to heaven on Thursday, July 9, 2015. A giant of a man, Joe possessed a gentle spirit, an infectious smile, and complete dedication to his beloved Clara, who was at his side throughout his life and at the time of his death.
Joe was born April 29, 1924 to the late Mathias and Mary Rosella (Wallace) Sprangers; the third oldest of their 14 children. On November 11, 1944, at St. Therese Church, Joe took Clara Salm to be his lifelong "bride". They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with dozens of family and friends in their home last fall.
Joe had a life-long affection for the beauty and bounty of the good earth. He was a pioneer in the local produce industry, a career that began in "the potato business" in the 1940s when he became the first supplier to break down the 100# bulk lots into smaller, more consumer-friendly packaging. When the emergence of supermarket chains eliminated a need for the small local wholesaler, Joe decided to pursue his dream of a produce farm and purchased 26 acres on the corner of South Oneida Street and Hwy 114 in Menasha to establish "Sprangers Spread". He and Clara worked in the fields and the produce stand for nearly 30 years, spending half the year in Wisconsin and the other half wintering in Florida. Along the way they provided summer jobs for dozens of youth.
Joe enjoyed traveling, sharing trays of his home-made candy, and telling tales of his and Clara's adventures. When they couldn't travel anymore, Joe learned to journey via the internet, sharing his discoveries with family and friends of all ages through emails and Facebook.
Joe is survived by his wife Clara; his siblings: Margaret Foley, Agnes (Stanley) Socha, and Patrick (Judy) Sprangers; his sisters-in-law, Marie Heinritz and Betty Salm. He is also survived by scores of nieces and nephews in both the Sprangers and Salm families.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; Clara's parents Nicholas and Frances Salm; his sister: Dorothy Schmit, his brothers: Ray, Daniel, Matthias, Edward, Myron, Florian, Hilary, Gerald and Thomas Sprangers and Clara's 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 Pine Street, Little Chute) with the Rev. Msgr. Myron "Mike" Sprangers (1930 - 2012) Myron "Mike" Sprangers, 82, Lakewood, formerly of Green Bay, died peacefully at a local hospital on Sunday, March 18, 2012, with his family by his side. Born on March 4, 1930, in the town of Buchanan, he was the son of the late Mathias and Rose (Wallace) Sprangers. On Sept. 26, 1953, he married the former Dorothy "Dottie" Lubinski at St. Mary's Church in Marion, Wis. In his younger years, Mike worked for Northwest Engineering, and then started Sprangers Steam Extraction, which he owned and operated for many years. Most recently he worked as a bus driver for Lamers Bus Company in Green Bay. Mike enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, golfing, cooking, gardening, and taking care of his long-time love, Dorothy. He was most proud of his woodworking, and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his church and his family.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; five children, Sue (Gary) Pamperin, De Pere; Sherry (Brian) DonLevy, Green Bay; Kathy (fiance, Bill Sconzert) Siebert, Green Bay; Steve (Ann) Sprangers, De Pere; Gloria Payne, De Pere; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; seven siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings; one daughter, Mary Jo Skully, one grandson, Davie Kwilinski; two sons-in-law, Ralph Payne, Steve Siebert.

Florian James Sprangers, 80, Bartow, Fla., formerly from Green Bay, Wis, died Thursday, June 23, 2011, at his home. Florian was born on June 16, 1931, in Isaar, Wis., to Mathias and Rose Sprangers. He is a decorated army veteran having served his country during the Korean War. On Sept. 25, 1954, he married Janis LaFond who preceded him in death on July 11, 1994. On June 30, 2000, he married Betty Johnson from Green Bay. They retired to Florida where they shared their love of each other and enjoyed golfing, bowling, periodic vacation cruises, singing in the church choir, and sharing themselves in friendship with many who live in their retirement resort. Florian was a devoted Green Bay Packer fan, attended the historic "Ice Bowl in 1967, and after moving to Florida he followed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Rays.
Florian worked as a machinist at Northwest Engineering and finished his career as shop foreman at Nichol Tool & Machine, Inc. before retiring in 1994. Florian enjoyed fishing on Lake Michigan and on the Bay of Green Bay in his boat, the Jani Too, named after his wife. He took a few major fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota, but was most successful fishing close to home. In the last few years of his life he enjoyed charter fishing in the Atlantic Ocean (Tarpon Springs) with his youngest son, Dean, grandson, Jason, and son-in-law, David.
Florian will be sadly missed by his children, Debra (Steve) VanBeckum, De Pere; Donald (Sherrie) Sprangers, E. Machias Maine; Dean (Theresa) Sprangers, De Pere; grandchildren, Caryn, Danielle, Nathan, Kaitlin, Brenton, Jason, Erin (David) Norgren; great-grandchildren, Gage and Mason; stepchildren, Cathy (Phil) Schneider, Wausau, Wis.; Tom (Kathy) Adrians, Green Bay; Mary (Dave) VanSpankeren, Oshkosh; stepgrandchildren, Nick, Christina, Tyler, Jessica, Jackie, Emily, Ryan; and step-great-grandchild Tyson.

Dorothy was united in marriage to the late Elmer Schmit on October 7, 1950 at St. Sebastian's church, in Isaar, WI. They celebrated 33 years of marriage before his passing on May 01, 1983. Dorothy was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, sewing, crafting and playing cards. She worked very hard to support and love her family after the early death of her husband. She always demonstrated courage and strength in her life and set a great example for her children and kept the family together and strong.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Karla (Glen) McClone, Seymour, Jim Schmit, Kaukauna, John (Heather) Schmit, Ecuador, Joe (Laura) Schmit, Bloomington, MN, Katye (Chris) Charlier, Ashwaubenon, Kris (Joe) Lenertz, Elk River, MN. Hilary J. Sprangers, age 73, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2007, at Appleton Medical Center in Appleton. Hilary was born December 15, 1933, in the Town of Harrison, the son of the late Mathias and Rosella (Wallace) Sprangers. He married Shirley Wroblewski on September 1, 1956, in Hofa Park, WI. Hilary had been employed at Azco, formerly Hennes Erecting for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 8. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church. Hilary loved fishing in Lake Michigan and he enjoyed woodworking.

Thomas M. Sprangers, age 71 of Kaukauna, WI went to his eternal reward surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 25, 2013 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born June 14, 1942 to the late Mathias and Mary Rosella (Wallace) Sprangers.
He was united in marriage to Jean (Walschinski) Sprangers on November 3, 1962 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jean; his Daughter, Michelle, David, and their children, Eric, Nick (Fiancé, Cindy Rauterkus) and Abigail; Son, Michael (Barb) Sprangers and their children, Logan and Mason; Son, Mark (Julie) Sprangers and their children Marshall and Olivia; Son, Matthew (Lisa) Sprangers and children Riley and Owen.

Janet Vanden Heuvel, Janet (nee Sprangers), 82, Appleton, died of a lingering illness at home on Aug. 7, 2010. She was born on Dec. 16, 1927, in Sherwood, to the late Joseph and Edna (Hopfensperger) Sprangers. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Sherwood and Kaukauna High School.
On June 23, 1951, she married Don Vanden Heuvel and lived all of her married life in Appleton. She worked at Zwicker Knitting Mill as a knitter from 1952 until 1959, when she and Don adopted three children, Tom, Donna and Tim. After her children were grown, she worked at Kohl's Department Store, where she retired as the lead in the Misses Department in 1994.
She enjoyed sewing and made most of her daughter's childhood clothing and fishing vests for Don. She spent many hours gardening, growing vegetables and canning fruit in season. She spared every sapling from the lawnmower by planting them in her flower beds, thus creating a very shady yard. She also enjoyed playing Bridge at the Thompson Community Center and an occasional trip to casinos.
She is survived by her husband, Don, Appleton; three children, Tom (Susan) Vanden Heuvel, Donna Vanden Heuvel, Appleton; and Tim Vanden Heuvel, San Diego; four sisters, Beatrice Mueller, Lorraine Kohl, Elaine Gregoire and Marge (Ken) Van Stralen; one brother, Joseph (Kay) Sprangers; sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Sprangers, Mary Sprangers, Ken and Lucy Lang, Harold and Isabelle Winius and John Meyer. She is further survived by 30 nieces and 28 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and dad; and three brothers, Lawrence (Marlene), Floyd and Leonard Sprangers.

Beatrice married Frederick Mueller on October 12, 1950, and together they shared 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2002. She will be remembered for her love of her family. Elaine M. Gregoire, Menasha, age 80, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011. She was born on November 12, 1930, in the Town of Harrison, daughter of the late Joseph and Edna (Hopfensperger) Sprangers. Elaine worked for Sherwood State Bank beginning in 1948. She worked there through its transition when it became Valley Bank. Elaine was Vice President and retired from the banking business in 1968. A few years later she worked for Altenhofen Realty in the office. On August 10, 1968, Elaine was united in marriage to Eugene Gregoire at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood; he preceded her in death on January 4, 2004. Elaine took loving care for her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as if they were her own. She was a very giving person making hundreds of dozens of cookies for her family members. Elaine also enjoyed quilting, making many for all of the younger members of the family.

Leonard A. Sprangers, Kaukauna, age 73, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at Appleton Medical Center, with his wife and children by his side. Len married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Vande Hey, of Wrightstown, on October 12, 1954. He was born February 11, 1934, to the late Joseph and Edna (Hofphensberger) Sprangers in Sherwood. Len and Mary farmed side-by-side for 45 years on their farm near Freedom. Together they enjoyed time with their children, grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Playing cards, bowling, Friday night fish, and trips to Branson and Nashville were among their favorite activities. In April, 2007, they took a memorable RV trip thru the Dakotas to Las Vegas with one of their daughters and her husband. Len was a kind, gentle, loving man, with a sense of humor who loved to tease his grandchildren. He regularly donated blood to the Red Cross for over 40 years. After retiring in 1999, Len's love for farming kept him involved helping his son with fieldwork and chores.

Paul Peter Uitenbroek, age 79, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Saturday, April 1st, in the home he was born in. He was born on June 30, 1937, to Joseph M. & Mary E. (Sprangers) Uitenbroek, and farmed with his family across the road from Holy Angels Church in Darboy. Paul attended Holy Angels grade school, and St. John's High School in Little Chute, but was a lifelong learner, having taken several other educational classes throughout his life. He married Donna Meulemans on June 11, 1959 at St. Paul's in Wrightstown, and shortly after, moved into the family homestead in Darboy where he raised his family and lived his entire life. Paul was also a lifelong member of Holy Angels/Holy Spirit Parish, where he was a choir member since childhood, and served as sexton like his father, for many of his younger years. He served the parish and community though his various mission works and in volunteering in many ways through his life. While he continued to farm for a short time after his marriage, Paul was self employed as a Plastering Contractor from 1958, initially in partnership with his brother Cliff, and later owning the business until 1993. Enjoyment was found in plastering with his son Tony even beyond that time. He also worked for White Clover Dairy as a maintenance engineer from 1983 until his retirement in 2002.
Paul's joy was his family, children and grand-children, and he had just become a great-grandfather. He always had a playful spirit, and was a wonderful & fun story-teller to all he met. Paul was always a handy fellow, a "jack of all trades" who could repair nearly anything that needed attention. He was a hard worker with a soft heart, and was also innovative, often being ahead of his time. He was a devoted husband and family man and will be missed dearly by Donna after 57 years of marriage; daughter Jean (Erik) Barnes and their children, Nickolas & Chelsey; daughter Sue (Pete) Scherer and their children, Melissa (Brandon) Wurzer, Travis (fiance' Danna Miller) Scherer; Son Tony (Diane) and their children, Trevor, Hannah & Philip Uitenbroek; daughter Julie (Ken) Bastian, and their children Kayla (Pearce) Goodwin and new great-grandson Carson, Alex & Amy Bastian and daughter Bonnie (Tom) Ermers and her children, Jenny & Lee Buelow. Paul is further survived by brothers: Jerome (Lynn) Uitenbroek, Cliff (Joann) Uitenbroek, Joe (Eleanor) Uitenbroek, sister-in-laws: Irene, Ruth & Janice Uitenbroek. Shirley A. Vander Heiden (Oudenhoven), Appleton, age 57, went home to the Lord Friday, July 24, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. She was born in Appleton on August 27, 1952, to Jerome and Marion (Sprangers) Oudenhoven. Shirley married and later separated from Gary Yingling, after having a son Jordan. She then married James "Jim" Vander Heiden on June 25, 1993, who preceded her in death September 11, 2006. Shirley loved the outdoors, spending time at the cottage in Shawano, and particularly enjoyed tending to her flowers.

Donna Rae Coenen, of Hortonville, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at her residence. Donna was born in Appleton, daughter of Raymond and Julia (Berghuis) Sprangers. On January 17, 1967, Donna was united in marriage to Dennis Coenen, in Menasha. She enjoyed snowmobiling, gambling, and bowling. Donna especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandchild.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Stephensville. Donna struggled with MS for over twenty years.
Donna is survived by her husband of forty years, Dennis; her father, Raymond Sprangers; her children: Doug (Lisa) Coenen, Hortonville, their children: Amanda, Trevor, and Mason; Dale (Amy) Coenen, Hortonville, their children: Bryce and Hayden; Dawn Coenen, Hortonville; her daughter, Amanda (fiance Eric); Dennis Jr. (Tammy) Coenen, Hortonville, their children: Lauren and Jarrett; Dean (Dayna) Coenen, Greenville, their children: Matt, Rachel and Sierra; Dyan (Mark) Vogel, Appleton; David (Kim) Coenen, Dale, their children: Bailey and Brady; Dana (Jake) Schiedermayer, Hortonville; Danielle Coenen, Hortonville and Darla Coenen, Hortonville. Patrick R. Foley, 64, passed away on Saturday morning September 28, 2013 after a long illness. Pat was born July 9, 1949 to Margaret (Sprangers) Foley and the late Raymond Foley. Pat was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea. On January 7, 1972 he was united in marriage to Nancy Vanderheiden at Annunciation Catholic Church in Green Bay. Pat was a "Handyman" of all sorts. He really enjoyed classic car Shows, and picture framing. Pat was very artistic. Above all love for his family was what he excelled in, he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his children; Karen (Chad) Kaster, and David (Jillian) Foley. Pat's mom Margaret Foley, as well as six grandchildren further survives. Pat was preceded in death by his son Mark Foley and his Dad Raymond Foley.
Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Drive in De Pere after 11am on Saturday October 5, 2013. Daniel "Big Dan" Sprangers passed away peacefully with his wife at his side Sunday, January 24, 2016. Dan was born October 1, 1957 the son of Gerald and Shirley (Schampers) Sprangers.
Dan worked at Georgia Pacific East until his disability in 2012. His passions in life were high school basketball, golf, camping at Captains Cove, the Packers of course, Texas Hold'em… or any card game, Hodag, and his other baby-his Harley Ultra Classic. Dan said his memories from riding were some of the best, especially going to Washington DC for Rolling Thunder.
Dan is survived by his love, his wife Judy; his mother, Shirley Sprangers; his siblings, Sally (Mike) Jilot, Randy (Jill) Sprangers, and Scott (Mary) Sprangers; nieces and nephews, Ted, Kimberly, Max, Hunter, Lincoln and Ryder; also his step family, Mike Habeck (Tina Deterville), Adam Habeck (Alisa Joachim); his grandchildren, Alyssa, Tia, Anthony and Breanna; and the cats, Spike and Harley.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Earl Sprangers, Springstead, WI, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at his home after a lengthy & courageous battle with cancer.
He was raised on the family farm in Sherwood, WI and graduated from Kaukauna High School. He served his Country for 2 years in the Army. He was employed by Ariens Co., Brillion, WI, for 30 years as a machinist. In June of 1997, he married his best friend and the love of his life Gail Vander Heiden/Wilz. They made their home on McDermott Lake in Springstead. He became employed by the Town of Sherman, where he worked 15 years as a Road Foreman until his illness forced him to retire.
Earl was a passionate hunter both at a cabin in Iola, the Sherwood area, and later in Catawba and Springstead. He loved to fish and especially enjoyed sturgeon spearing on Lake Winnebago. His garden was his pride and joy.

Steven C. Sprangers, Combined Locks, age 65, died peacefully on Friday June 30, 2017 at his home with his family by his side following a short battle with cancer. He was born on February 18, 1952 in Green Bay the son of the late Lawrence and Marileen (Vandehey) Sprangers.
On June 2, 1972 Steve married the former Jane Verhagen. The couple lived in the area their entire lives. Steve was employed by the city of Kaukauna for 38 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and 'junking'. Steve loved his family, his four grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Steve is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jane, Combined Locks; son, Mark (Abby), Kaukauna, and their children Reanne and Sarena; daughter Leah (Steve) Novak, Kaukauna, and their children Lilah and Taylor; five brothers and sisters-in-law: Ralph (Jean), Oklahoma, David (Jeanne), Combined Locks, Frank (Beth), Larry (Julie) and Tom (Dawn) all of Menasha. He is further survived by his wife's family: Bill (Deb) Verhagen, Donna (Jerry) Schoen, Paul (Debbie) Verhagen and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his wife's parents Dote and Jim Verhagen.
