    Johnson, Richard J. "Dick"
    Richard Jervis Johnson, Little Chute, died at home Saturday November 25, 2006, surrounded by his family. He was 84. Dick was born in Nahma, Michigan on March 3, 1922, to the late Howard and Della (Vennet) Johnson. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on November 23, 1942. Dick served on the islands of Marshall and Marianas in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a 55 year member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, Little Chute and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 7692, Freedom. On September 16, 1944, Dick married Vitalis M. Wulgaert at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church where he was a lifelong member. He was employed at Appleton Papers Locks Mill until his retirement in 1977 and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Golden Agers Club. Dick was an avid outdoorsman, greatly enjoying hunting and fishing until last year. He was also a talented builder, having constructed his own home and cottage. Dick's greatest joy was spending time with his family. His favorite role was that of a proud grandfather to his 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
    Dick is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vitalis; five children: Mary (Dennis) Schaefer, Kaukauna; Barb (Tom) Schiedermayer, Shiocton; Patricia (Tom) Seggelink, Virginia; Terry (Pat) Johnson, Little Chute; and Tim (Sherrie) Johnson, Little Chute; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Jack Spierings; a sister: Blanche (Louis) Vessel; a brother: Ivan (Gloria) Johnson; and a sister-in-law: Gilda (Gordy) Hennes. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Dick was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Spierings; his brother, James; his sister, Betty (Vern) Houghton; his mother and father-in-law: Louise and Charles Wulgaert; and a sister-in-law: Rella (Alfred) Collens.
    The Funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. Thursday November 30, 2006, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. The Rev. James Hablewitz will officiate. Military rites performed by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 will immediately follow Mass. Friends may call Thursday after 2 p.m. until the time of Mass directly at church. Committal Highland Memorial Park.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Drs. Anthony Phillips, Robert Belgam, Charles Cheng, John Swanson, David Ebben and all of their staff.
