    Vanderlinden, Milton
    Milton Vanderlinden, age 82, of Oceanside, CA, died Saturday, November 18, 2006. He was born April 20, 1924, in Appleton, WI, and lived in San Diego County for 64 years. He was a painter for the Vista School District for 13 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for more than 30 years, retiring in 1972. He served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Guadalcanal, Saipan and Tarawa.
    Mr. Vanderlinden is survived by his wife of 37 years, A. Arlene Vanderlinden, Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law: Mark and Sue Ann Vanderlinden; daughters and sons-in-law: Rebecca and Gordon Rodney, Trudy and Tom Thiele, Kristin and Richard Martinez, Juneau and Todd Catlin and Vicki and Jeff Groom; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clifford and Evelyn Vanderlinden; sister, Elinor Stead, sister-in-law, Mary Vanderlinden.
    Visitation and funeral services were held in California. Eternal Hills Mortuary handled arrangements

    Mel Vanderlinden, age 83, of Appleton, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 19, 2015 at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. He was born on July 30, 1931 in Appleton, to the late Clifford and Evelyn (Gerard) Vanderlinden. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, and then joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mel served his country from September 13, 1950 until September 12, 1953 and received The Purple Heart. On October 11, 1952 he married the love of his life, Mary Thompson in Daleville, Alabama. They shared 53 years together until her passing on May 19, 2006.
    Mel was a race car driver at the Outagamie Speedway, and other surrounding area race tracks. He was a member of the Rusty Spokes (Motorcycle Club) and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mel retired in 1996 from Palisades Heating and Cooling in Menasha. After retirement he drove bus for Lamers Bus Lines for 15 years. Over the years Mel enjoyed motorcycling, racing, gardening, but most of all spending time with his family.
    Mel is survived by his children: Debbie (Bob) Sokel, Micki (Will) Hoerning, Michael (Jerri) Vanderlinden, Shari (Bill) Block, T.C. (Michael) Kilbane, Sue (Tom) Deuster, and James (Shelly) Vanderlinden; grandchildren: Sheila (Joe) Novy and Dennis (Lisa) Sokel; Tony Hoerning; Monique (Eric) Soda; Kristy (Matt) Kerkhoff; Stacy (Jon) Clark, Kassie (Troy) Machovsky and Jacob Kilbane; Brandon Deuster and Holly Deuster; Avery and Levi Vanderlinden; great grandchildren: Emma, Mallory, Dylan, Paige, Henry, Carly, Joelle, and Garrett; sister Gerry Kirvan; sisters-in-law Arlene Vanderlinden, Betty Sue Ramsey, and Helen McClain; and brothers-in-law: Arden Stead and Don Schwanke. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Mary Vanderlinden, brother Milton Vanderlinden, sisters: Eleanor Stead and Betty Schwanke; father and mother-in-law Lester and AlvieLee Thompson; sisters-in-law: EvaNell Hines and Virginia Turner; and great grandson Andrew Novy.
    The funeral liturgy for Melvin will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 22, 2015 at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street in Appleton. Fr. Jim Leary, O.F.M. Cap will be officiating. Entombment with full military honors will take place at Highland Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday morning at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of mass.     The family would like to extend their thanks to the incredible staff at Theda Clark for all of the care and compassion shown to our family these past two weeks. The nurses, physicians, and staff were just wonderful, and we will never forget everything you have done for us.

    Schwanke, Betty Mae
    Betty Mae Schwanke, 73, Bradenton, Fla., passed away Tuesday April 2, 2008, at Tidewell Hospice & Palliative Care, Bradenton, after a short illness. Betty was born Sept. 20, 1934, in Appleton, daughter of the late Clifford and Evelyn Vander Linden. On April 7, 1956, she married Donald A. Schwanke at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton. She loved to be with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. She enjoyed spending her summers with her family at Kelly Lake in Suring, Wis., fishing, swimming, jet skiing, but mostly cruising around Kelly Lake on the pontoon boat. She was fortunate to spend the last 11 years in retirement with her loving husband of 52 years in Bradenton, Fla., during the winters.
    Survivors include her husband, Donald A. Schwanke, Bradenton; four children, Brian Schwanke, Greenfield; Tammy (Jack) Vechart, Snellsville, Ga.; Randy (Deb) Schwanke, Greenfield; and Donald Jr. (Mary Kay) Schwanke, Franklin; seven grandchildren, Justin (Karen) Vechart, Courtney Vechart, Ryan, Colin and Aaron Schwanke, Stephanie and Brianna Schwanke; one great-grandchild, Justin Kyle Vechart; one sister, Gerry Kirvan, Appleton; one brother, Melvin Vander Linden, Appleton; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Vander Linden, Oceanside, Calif., and Dorothy Haese, Reedsville; and a brother-in-law, Arden Stead, Appleton.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Milton Vander Linden; a sister, Eleanor Stead; a sister-in-law, Mary Vander Linden; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Haese.
    The funeral mass for Betty will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHO-LIC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Street, Appleton, with Father Gerald Falk as celebrant. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Chapel Mausoleum, Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and again from 10 a.m. Friday until the beginning of mass at the church.
    A memorial fund in Betty's name is being established by her family.
