    Marine Pvt. Roger J. Voet, 19, Metoxen Ave., Kaukauna, recently received the Purple Heart medal for mortar shell wounds suffered during the battle of Iwo Jima. A member of the fourth Marine division, Voet was among 75 wounded veterans of the Regiment were honored in a ceremony following their return to duty. Before enlisting in May 1944 he was employed at Kaukauna Hardware Company.

    Obituary:
    Peter Voet, age 64, of Kaukauna, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007, following a brief illness. Peter was born in Appleton on July 16, 1943, son of the late Edward and Ruth (Alberts) Voet. After graduation from high school, he attended St. Norbert College in De Pere. As a young man, Peter began working for his father in the family hardware story. When his father passed away in 1968, Peter took over the store. For the better part of forty years of doing business, Peter didn't miss a day at the store. He was also a longtime and faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna, where he served as an usher. Peter also belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
    Survivors include two sisters: Tike Voet of Belfast, Maine and Mary "Midge" Wiatrowski of Oshkosh; a sister-in-law: Joan Voet of Kaukauna; a dear friend: Kay Busse of Kaukauna; seven nieces and nephews: Adam (Jacalyn) Wiatrowski, Jacob Wiatrowski, Cathy (Greg) Noonan, Diane (Mike) Van Able, Danny (Sue) Voet, Ed (Lynn) Voet, and Mike (Beth) Voet; and many local friends from the hardware store.
    Peter was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dan Voet, and a sister, Sr. Sonia Voet.
    The funeral liturgy for Peter will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 21, 2007, at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH - St. Mary's Site in Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that contributions be directed to St. Katharine Drexel Parish.

    Raymond R. Voet, age 68, of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, on Tuessday, January 8, 2013. Pork was born on September 14, 1944, in Appleton, to the late Howard and Ivyle (Wagnitz) Voet. He was well-known as the owner of Pork's Place on Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna. Pork was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his annual trips to Wyoming. He enjoyed gardening, playing cribbage and was fond of watching the Weather Channel. Survivors include his children, Vicki (Harry) Rosin; Kevin Voet; Tracy (Jamie) Voet; and Jodi Voet; his sisters, Cher (Ken) McDaniel; Ev (Mark) Schneider and Jan Schmit; his brothers, Gale (Alice) Voet; Wayne (Lisa) Voet; Randy Voet; Mark "Bass" (Fiona) Voet; Scott (Michele) Voet and Chris Voet (friend Diane); and his brother-in-law, Gene Kirley. He is further survived by his grandchildren, his great-grandson, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his partner-in-crime, Aaron Schmit. Pork was preceded in death by his sister Dawn Kirley, his brother-in-law Robbie Schmit, and his grandson Adam Voet. Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the FARGO FUNERAL HOME, 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Kaukauna.     Mary "Jan" Schmit, age 56, of Kaukauna, passed away at the place where she found most peace, her home, with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 15. She was born in Kaukauna on September 3, 1958 daughter of Howard and Ivyle (Wagnitz) Voet. She married Robbie Schmit on August 3, 1979. Jan enjoyed collecting antiques, rummage sales, her flower and vegetable gardens, and entertaining friends and family in her garage. Jan was a very loving person whether helping the needy or feeding the neighborhood wildlife.
    She is survived by her daughter, Abbi (Kevin) Fassbender and their children Emma, Ila and Kepler; sisters: Cher (Ken) McDaniel, Ev (Mark) Schneider; brothers: Gale (Alice) Voet, Wayne (Lisa) Voet, Robert "Bass" (Fiona) Voet, Scott (Michele) Voet, Chris (special friend Diane) Voet, and Linda Hurst (special friend Roy); brothers-in-law: Tom (Mary Kae) Schmit, Gene Kirley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robbie, son Aaron, sister Dawn "Sis" Kirley, brother Ray "Pork" Voet, brother-in-law Dick Schmit and dogs Patch and Maggie.
    Kevin and I would like to thank Aunt Ev for keeping our children up with their busy summer activity schedule, Sue and Gary Fassbender for your loving home, Bonnie Fassbender with the last minute sleep overs and the Van Rooys for your open door. Through this hard time it was so important for us to keep our children's bodies busy and their minds full. We are forever grateful.
    We would also like to thank Aunt Ev and Aunt Cher for their help in doctor's visits, sleep overs, and care, and Aunt Michele for helping her through her first part of her journey and continuing to be a great "partner in crime." A big thank you to Nancy Mainville and Mary Pleshek for always trying to "fatten" my mother up.
    I would like to thank my Uncle Wayne for limitless care. Morning, noon and night you were there for her. You were everything to her. Most could only dream of a brother who loved us so much.
    Lastly, I would like to thank my husband. It was important to me she stayed where she loved. You picked up three kids and two dogs and moved into my Mother's home to care for her. Everyday got harder and not once did I see your fear. Every day came with new demands for her care, and you took every one of them with stride. You showed my Mother true love and compassion.     Aaron R. Schmit, Kaukauna, age 36, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 12, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born in Appleton on March 26, 1978, son of the late Robert "Robbie" and Mary "Jan" (Voet) Schmit. Aaron worked installing flooring with his cousin Tracy. He enjoyed goose and duck hunting with Uncle Bass, Uncle Pork and Todd. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing on the Fox. Aaron had a special bond with his dad, Foster, Uncle Pork and also friends, Russ & Mary, Chris, Kurt, Todd, Tracy, his Godchild Bayleigh, his dog Maggie, and Emma, who he got to spend the summer with.
    Aaron was one hell of a story teller where the punch line didn't matter because he would be laughing so hard, he couldn't finish the story. He always came up with crazy one liners. You never knew what was gonna come out of his mouth. Aaron had a heart of gold and was always there for his friends when needed.
    He is survived by his mother, his sister, Abbi (Kevin) Fassbender, nieces, Emma and Ila and a nephew Kepler. He is further survived by aunts and uncles: Gale (Alice) Voet, Gene Kirley, Cher (Ken) McDaniel, Ev (Mark) Schneider, Wayne (Lisa) Voet, Randy Voet, Robert "Bass" (Fiona) Voet, Scott (Michele) Voet, Chris (special friend Diane Bloy) Voet, Linda Hurst (special friend Roy Hartjes), and Tom (Mary Kae) Schmit; numerous cousins and friends.

    It was the family's decision to donate Aaron's tissue and beautiful brown eyes. Their generous and caring donation will live on in many others.
