Deris graduated from Appleton High School in June of 1939. When World War II broke out he proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air force in the Pacific arena. Upon returning home, Deris operated a Standard Oil Gas Station on the corner of Wisconsin Ave and Oneida. After selling the station he began work at Appleton Papers, Inc. where he enjoyed a long career in the pipefitting department until retirement. Deris participated in Appleton High School Athletic Booster Club for his son Jim and watched the Appleton East School musicals and Marching Band for his son Dave. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing in the Fox River and at his cottage on the shores of Legend Lake. When Margaret became severely ill he moved to Missouri City, Texas, and lived with his son David until her death. He met Norma in 2000 and they were married in 2001. In 2009, Deris, wanting to live his final years fishing and being by the water, moved with Norma to Tavares, Florida, where he died on Monday morning.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 2, 2010, at the Highland Memorial Park Chapel, 3131 N. Richmond Street, in Appleton, with Rev. Timothy Albrecht officiating. Friends may call at the cemetery chapel on Monday from 12 noon until the hour of the service.
