    John E. Leis, 61, of Roscommon and formerly of Sparta, died at home Friday, Nov. 8, 2013. A celebration of life will be 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1, 2013, with a 2 p.m. service at Faith Evangelical Free Church, Sparta. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Markey Baptist Church, Roscommon. Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, and Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, are assisting the family.
    John E. Leis, age 61, of Roscommon, MI, formally of Sparta, WI died peacefully at his home on Friday, November 8, 2013. He was born on September 19, 1952 to Nyle and Marcella (Wienke) Leis. He graduated from Sparta High School. John enlisted in the Army as an Air Borne Ranger. John enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. But most of all he was willing and able to help a friend in need. He is survived by his wife, Michele of Roscommon, MI; his father, Nyle of Sparta; sister, Connie (Gordy) Bakken of Sparta; brothers, Lambert "Bert" Leis of Westby, and Milton (Rose) Leis of Sparta; step children and grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella; and two sons, Eddie Wayne and Jonathon. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on December 1, 2013 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m. at Faith Ev. Free Church, 6644 State Hwy. 16, Sparta, with Pastor Matt Miklasz officiating. A memorial service will be held November 24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Markey Baptist Church in Roscommon, MI with Reverend Dr. James N. Kent officiating. The Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, MI, and Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with arrangements.
