    Descendants of Pioneers Enjoy Gathering at Crystal
    A happy gathering was at the Hoekstra-Goedeke cottage At Crystal Lake Sunday, for the reunion of the descendants Of the late Melanchthon and Calvin Merrill, early pioneers Of Calumet county.The two brothers moved with their families from MedinaCounty, Ohio, in 1851, and settled in the Town of Chilton.The Melanchthon Merrill family located on the farm late rKnown as the Peter Short farm and the Calvin Merrill family On the recent Allen Mortimore farm. They cleared the land, Tilled the soil and raised their families facing the hardships That were common to all Calumet county's early settlers.Two other brothers, Almond and Ripley Merrill, were also Early Calumet county settlers, but later moved their families To the state of Michigan.The day was spent reminiscing the happenings of former Days and forming the aquaintance of new members of the Families. At noon a bounteous dinner was served.The fifty guests present included: Mr. And Mrs. Edward Schneider of Kiel, Mr. And Mrs. Burton Hoffman of Stockbridge, Mr. And Mrs. Arthur Phillips and children And Chester Oakley of Chilton, grandchildren of the late Jeremiah Merrill; Mrs. Louisa Merrill and daughters, the Misses Blanche and Jessie of Abbotsford, Mrs H.J. Nabbefeld Of Chippewa Falls and Ed Merrill of Oakland, Cal., who Represented the family of the late Dr. J.M. Merrill; Harry M. Merrill of Porter, Mr. And Mrs. George Hoekstra,Mr. And Mrs. Fred Goedeke and children, Mr. And Mrs.Francis Hoekstra and Harry Hoekstra of Sheboygan, Mr. And Mrs. Ellis Merrill and daughter, Lenice, and son, Quentin, Mr. And Mrs. Herbert Merrill and children of Stevens Point, all of whom represented the family of the late Almond Merrill; Mrs. Dora Merrill, wife of the late Glenn Merrill, Mr. And Mrs. Harold Merrill and children, Mr. And Mrs. Richard Merrill and children and Miss Marion Merrill Of Sheboygan, Mrs. Lydia Oakley and Garfield Merrill ofChilton, all descendants of Melanchthon Merrill. The Descendants of Calvin Merrill were Mrs. Sarah Crawford And Miss Isla E. Crawford of Milwaukee and Mrs. O.H.Groelle and daughter, Dorothea of West Allis.
