Sisters of Our Lady of Charity
Sister Infant Jesus entered the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity in Monterey, Mexico, on September 1912, at 16 years of age and made her religious profession in 1915. She lived there until 1926; by that time the Mexican Revolution of 1910 had brought on such stringent regulations that there was a real persecution of priests and religious. In that year the Religious were given one week to close their convents and religious houses. The Green Bay convent was among others who offered refuge to the Mexican Sisters, and Sister Infant Jesus came to Green Bay with 11 others. Sister became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1947. Sister Infant Jesus was an artist and beautifully painted church vestments for may churches in Wisconsin. She was a musician, both at the organ and piano and taught many Green Bay girls piano. She was an excellent seamstress and her fine needlework embellished many gifts to benefactors and friends. Sr. Infant Jesus's great grandfather had emigrated from Spain and his ancestry could be traced back for many generations.
